Claims

- 4. The compound according to claim 1, wherein R5 is a thiophene or furan ring substituted by X′ and Y′.
- 5. The compound according to claim 1, wherein R5 is a six membered ring with the structure:
- 6. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound according to claim 1, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient.
- 7. A method of inducing contraception in a mammal, the method comprising administering to a mammal in need thereof a pharmaceutically effective amount of a compound of claim 1, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 8. A method of treatment of dysfunctional bleeding in a mammal, the method comprising administering to a mammal in need thereof a pharmaceutically effective amount of a compound of claim 1, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 9. A method of treatment of carcinomas and adenocarcinomas of the endometrium, ovary, breast, colon, or prostate in a mammal, the method comprising administering to a mammal in need thereof a pharmaceutically effective amount of a compound of claim 1, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 10. A compound of claim 1 which is 5-(3-chlorophenyl)-3,3-dimethyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-indole-2-thione or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 11. A compound of claim I which is 3-benzyl-5-(3-chlorophenyl)-3-methyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-indole-2-thione or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 12. A compound of claim 1 which is 4-(3,3-dimethyl-2-thioxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indol-5-yl)-2-furonitrile or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 13. A compound of claim 1 which is 5-(3-methoxyphenyl)-3,3-dimethyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-indole-2-thione or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 14. A compound of claim 1 which is 5-(3-chlorophenyl)-3,3-diethyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-indole-2-thione or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 15. A method of treatment of carcinomas and adenocarcinomas of uterine leiomyomata, endometriosis or polycystic ovary syndrome in a mammal, the method comprising administering to a mammal in need thereof a pharmaceutically effective amount of a compound of claim 1, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
