Claims
- 1. A gravity responsive attitude switch which controls a circuit in response to positioning of the switch relative to true vertical comprising:a housing defining a chamber, said chamber having a non-conductive spherical outer wall and a spherical inner wall; a conductive spherical member disposed within said chamber and defining said spherical inner wall; a sensing pathway disposed within said chamber, said sensing pathway being defined by a conductive coating layer applied to said spherical outer wall; a gravity responsive member free to move within said chamber whereby said gravity responsive member, dependent on the orientation of said switch relative to true vertical, either contacts said sensing pathway or does not contact said sensing pathway; where said pathway defines a course of rotation for said switch over all three axial directions regardless of whether said switch remains fixed in space or is moved through space as its position is changed, wherein said gravity responsive member remains in contact with said pathway throughout said course of rotation.
- 2. The switch of claim 1, wherein said conductive coating layer is applied to said outer spherical wall such that said sensing pathway is non-conductive, such that an open circuit is maintained during said course of rotation.
- 3. The switch of claim 1, wherein said conductive coating layer is applied to said outer spherical wall such that said sensing pathway is conductive, such that a closed circuit is maintained during said course of rotation.
- 4. The switch of claim 1, wherein said conductive coating layer comprises a graphite-containing material.
- 5. The switch of claim 1, wherein said conductive coating layer comprises a conductive ink.
- 6. A gravity responsive attitude switch which controls a circuit in response to positioning of the switch relative to true vertical comprising:a housing defining a chamber, said chamber having a conductive spherical outer wall and a non-conductive spherical inner wall; a non-conductive spherical member disposed within said chamber and defining said spherical inner wall; a sensing pathway disposed within said chamber, said sensing pathway being defined by a conductive coating layer applied to said spherical inner wall; a gravity responsive member free to move within said chamber whereby said gravity responsive member, dependent on the orientation of said switch relative to true vertical, either contacts said sensing pathway or does not contact said sensing pathway; where said pathway defines a course of rotation for said switch over all three axial directions regardless of whether said switch remains fixed in space or is moved through space as its position is changed, wherein said gravity responsive member remains in contact with said pathway throughout said course of rotation.
- 7. The switch of claim 6, wherein said conductive coating layer is applied to said inner spherical wall such that said sensing pathway is non-conductive, such that an open circuit is maintained during said course of rotation.
- 8. The switch of claim 6, wherein said conductive coating layer is applied to said inner spherical wall such that said sensing pathway is conductive, such that a closed circuit is maintained during said course of rotation.
- 9. The switch of claim 6, wherein said conductive coating layer comprises a graphite-containing material.
- 10. The switch of claim 6, wherein said conductive coating layer comprises a conductive ink.
