Claims
- 1. A magnetic recording head for writing to and reading from a storage medium, said head comprising
- a pair of longitudinally-oriented write poles each of which has a tip adapted to be disposed adjacent to said storage medium, said tips being spaced from each other to define a gap therebetween,
- a read pole disposed in said gap between said tips of said write pole,
- a coil disposed between a first one of said write poles and said read pole for use in during writing,
- a magnetic flux sensor longitudinally spaced from said gap and disposed to allow said read pole conduct flux to the flux sensor during reading, said flux sensor comprising a solenoidal coil that surrounds said read pole.
- 2. The head of claim 1 further including a magnetically saturable side shield disposed adjacent to said write poles and said read pole, said side shield serving to suppress fringing interference from tracks of said storage medium that are disposed adjacent to a track being read by said read pole, said side shield being configured to become saturated during writing so as not to interfere therewith.
- 3. The head of claim 1 wherein said write poles and said read poles are laminated.
- 4. A magnetic recording head for writing to and reading from a storage medium, said head comprising
- a p air of longitudinally-oriented write poles each of which has a tip adapted to be disposed adjacent to said storage medium, said tips being spaced from each other to define a gap therebetween,
- said write poles including yokes that are longitudinally spaced from said tips, said yokes being spaced from each other by a greater amount than are said tips,
- a read pole disposed in said gap between said tips of said write pole,
- a magnetic flux sensor longitudinally spaced from said gap and disposed between said yokes, said flux sensor being positioned to allow said read pole to conduct flux to the flux sensor during reading, and
- a coil disposed between a first one of said yokes and said read pole for use during writing.
- 5. The head of claim 4 wherein said magnetic flux sensor comprises a second coil at least a portion of which is disposed between a second one of said yokes and said read pole.
- 6. The head of claim 5 wherein the first-mentioned coil has a generally planar configuration and said second coil is a solenoidal coil that surrounds said read pole.
- 7. The head of claim 4 further including a magnetically saturable side shield disposed adjacent to said write poles and said read pole, said side shield serving to suppress fringing interference from tracks of said storage medium that are disposed adjacent to a track being read by said read pole, said side shield being configured to become saturated during writing so as not to interfere therewith.
- 8. The head of claim 4 wherein said write poles and said read poles are laminated.
- 9. The head of claim 1 wherein the first-mentioned coil has a generally planar configuration.
