Claims
- 1. A throttle lever system for a percussive, fluid-activated apparatus, said apparatus having a backhead at a top end, a fronthead at a bottom end and a housing therebetween forming a central bore, said central bore having therein a front piston chamber for receiving and exhausting a flushing fluid, said throttle lever system comprising:
- a. a percussive fluid inlet port in said backhead;
- b. first passageway means in said apparatus for fluid communication between said inlet port and said front piston chamber, said first passageway means being fluidly operable on said piston to start, stop and reciprocate said piston;
- c. first accumulator chamber means in said first passageway means for fluid communication with said inlet port;
- d. first seal actuator means in said first passageway means for opening and closing said first passageway means between said inlet port and said first accumulator chamber means;
- e. second passageway means in said apparatus for fluid communication between said inlet port and said front piston chamber, said second passageway means being fluidly operable on said apparatus for passing flushing fluid from said inlet port through said front piston chamber, said second passageway means being separate and independent from said first passageway means;
- f. second accumulator chamber means in said second passageway means for fluid communication with said inlet port;
- g. second seal actuator means in said second passageway means for opening and closing said second passageway means between said inlet port and said second accumulator chamber means;
- h. first throttle means on said backhead for actuating said first seal actuator means; and
- i. second throttle means on said backhead for actuating said second seal actuator means.
- 2. The throttle lever system of claim 1 further comprising:
- a. said second accumulator chamber being formed by a bore in said backhead;
- b. said second passageway means including a connecting passageway between said backhead bore and said front piston chamber; and
- c. said second seal actuator means including a valve stem closure means slidable in said backhead bore, for opening and closing said connecting passageway.
- 3. The throttle lever system of claim 2 wherein said valve stem closure means comprises:
- a. a first valve stem end in sealing contact with a seal seat surface on a sidewall of said backhead bore, when said second seal means is closed, and out of contact with said seal seat surface, when said second seal means is open;
- b. a second valve stem end extending outside of said backhead bore for contact with said second throttle means; and
- c. an elongated valve stem body therebetween, said valve stem body reciprocal in said backhead bore between an open and closed position.
- 4. The throttle lever system of claim 3 wherein said second throttle means comprises:
- a. a throttle lever elastically and pivotally mounted on a pivot pin on said backhead, said lever cantilevered from said pivot pin to extend above said second valve stem end, whereby said lever elastically moves up and down into and out of contact with said second valve stem end, in response to operator hand pressure.
- a. a percussive fluid inlet port in said backhead;
- b. first passageway means and first seal actuator means in said apparatus for fluid communication between said inlet port and said front piston chamber, said first passageway means and first seal actuator means being fluidly operable on said piston to start, stop and reciprocate said piston;
- c. second passageway means and second seal actuator means in said apparatus for fluid communication between said inlet port and said front piston chamber, said second passageway means being fluidly operable on said apparatus for passing flushing fluid from said inlet port through said front piston chamber, said second passageway means being separate and independent from said first passageway means;
- d. said first seal actuator means positioned in said backhead for opening and closing said first passageway means;
- e. said second seal actuator means positioned in said backhead for opening and closing said second passageway means;
- f. first throttle means on said backhead for opening and closing said first seal actuator means; and
- g. second throttle means on said backhead separate and independent from said first throttle means, for opening and closing said second seal actuator means, said second throttle means comprising:
- (i) a throttle lever elastically and pivotally mounted on a pivot pin on said backhead, said lever cantilevered from said pivot pin to extend above said second seal actuator means, whereby said lever elastically moves up and down into and out of contact with said second seal actuator means, in response to operator hand pressure.
