Claims
- 1. An endorser assembly for use in apparatus for feeding sheets arranged in a stack in a predetermined direction and having a closed loop feed belt and roller means for supporting the belt and second closed loop belt means and a group of roller means supporting said second belt means for urging the second belt means toward the feed belt, the feed belt and second belt means cooperatively defining an arcuate path for guiding and moving documents therebetween; said endorser assembly comprising endorser means driven by said second belt means for endorsing documents as they pass between the feed belt and the second belt means; means for selectively positioning said endorser means in either an engaging or displaced position with regard to said documents.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said feed belt is provided with at least one groove extending over its entire length and confronting said endorser means;
- said endorser means comprising an endorser die having a raised printing portion extending around the periphery therof, said raised portion having a width less than the width of the groove in said feed belt and extending from the surface of said endorser die a distance which is less than the depth of the groove in said feed belt whereby no ink will be transferred from the endorser die to the feed belt when the endorser die is in the printing position in the absence of any documents passing therebetween.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said endorser means further comprises inking means for inking said endorser means;
- means for displacing said inking means from said endorser means when said endorser means is moved to said displaced position and for engaging said endorsing means when said endorsing means is in the printing position.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said endorser means comprises
- a rotatable ink roller;
- a rotatable ink transfer roller rollably engaging said ink roller;
- an endorser die rollably engaging said ink transfer roller.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said endorser means further comprises an ink roller, an ink transfer roller and an endorser die; first, second and third pivotally mounted lever arms each respectively rotatably supporting said ink roller, said ink transfer roller and said endorser die;
- biasing means for rotating said first, second and third lever arms to urge said endorser die into engagement with said feed belt, said ink transfer roller into engagement with said endorser die; and said ink roller into engagement with said ink transfer roller;
- an operating arm manually movable in a first direction for disengaging said endorser to prevent printing, said operating arm having a driving portion for engaging said second lever arm to rotate said second lever arm in a direction counter to the force of said biasing means; said third lever arm having a portion engaging said second lever arm to rotate said third lever arm in a direction counter to the force of said biasing means; said second lever arm having a portion engaging said first lever arm to rotate said first lever arm in a direction counter to the force of said biasing means whereby said ink roller, ink transfer roller endorser die and feed belt are all disengaged from one another when said operating arm is moved in said first direction.
