Claims
- 1. A method for correcting time base errors in a video signal to synchronize the video signal with a reference signal having horizontal synchronizing pulses, comprising the steps of:
- storing the video signal in a memory in increments of one horizontal line of video information and at a rate synchronized to horizontal pulses in said video signal;
- reading the increments of the stored video signal from said memory at a rate equal to the frequency of the horizontal synchronizing pulses in said reference signal; and
- varying the time at which one of said storing and reading steps is initiated relative to the occurrence of a horizontal synchronizing pulse in its corresponding video or reference signal in increments of one-half of a horizontal line.
- 2. A method for correcting time base errors in a video signal to synchronize the video signal with a reference signal having vertical and horizontal synchronizing pulses, comprising the steps of:
- detecting a vertical synchronizing pulse in said video signal;
- calculating an address at which to begin storing said video signal in a memory;
- storing said video signal in the memory in increments of one horizontal line each, beginning at said calculated address and at a rate corresponding to the frequency of horizontal synchronizing pulses in said video signal and synchronized with said vertical synchronizing pulse;
- detecting a vertical synchronizing pulse in said reference signal;
- calculating an address at which to begin reading a stored video signal from said memory;
- reading a stored video signal from said addressing the memory at a rate corresponding to the frequency of horizontal synchronizing pulses in said reference signal and synchronizing with the vertical synchronizing pulse in said reference signal; and
- delaying the initiation of one of said storing and reading steps by increments of one-half of a horizontal line relative to the vertical synchronizing pulse from the corresponding video or reference signal.
- 3. The method of claim 2 further including the steps of determining whether each of said detected vertical synchronizing pulse related to an odd or even video field, and wherein said initiation is delayed by a multiple of one-half of a horizontal line, said multiple being related to said determination of whether the detected pulses relate to odd or even fields.
