Claims
- 1. A method of forming a display having a lookup table (LUT), said method comprising:forming a display on a first substrate; forming a digital to analog converter (DAC) on the first substrate with the display, wherein the DAC is coupled to the display; and forming a lookup table (LUT) on the first substrate, wherein the LUT is coupled to the DAC.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:storing a plurality of LUT data sets in a storage device on a second substrate; and selecting with a state machine which LUT data set of the plurality of LUT data sets are to be loaded into the LUT.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the state machine cycles through a sequence of LUT data sets selected from the group consisting of R, G, B, {overscore (R)}, {overscore (G)} and {overscore (B)}.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein the sequence includes the pattern R, {overscore (G)}, B, {overscore (R)}, G, {overscore (B)}.
- 5. The method of claim 3, where the sequence alternates between a data set for a color and a data set for an inverted color.
- 6. The method of claim 2 further comprising:segregating incoming image data into monochrome subframes with a parser; and storing the subframes in the storage device with a memory controller.
- 7. The method of claim 2, wherein the LUT data sets map an m-bit value into an n-bit value where n>m.
- 8. The method of claim 2, wherein the LUT data sets adjust for non-linearity in the DAC and the display.
- 9. The method of claim 2, wherein the plurality of LUT data sets includes a data set corresponding to at least one of a temperature range, and a contrast control.
- 10. The method of claim 2, wherein the state machine cycles through R, G, B, LUT data sets and performs digital inversion of every second data set.
- 11. The method of claim 1, wherein the display has a data path, the data path having a width of r pixels wherein one LUT and one DAC are formed on the substrate for each of the r pixels of the data path, wherein r is a positive integer.
- 12. A method for a display system, said method comprising:forming a display on a first substrate; forming a lookup table (LUT) on the first substrate, wherein the LUT is coupled to the display; generating image frames from an image source; storing a plurality of subframes of the image frames; generating a plurality of LUT data sets corresponding to the stored plurality of subframes; storing the LUT data sets external to the first substrate; and sequentially loading the LUT data sets into the lookup table on the first substrate with a state machine.
- 13. The method of claim 12, wherein the storage unit and the state machine are formed on a second substrate.
- 14. The method of claim 13, wherein the LUT data sets are stored on the second substrate prior to loading into the LUT.
- 15. The method of claim 12, wherein the subframes include a red (R) subframe, a green (G) subframe, and a blue (B) subframe.
- 16. The method of claim 12, wherein a sequence in which the LUT is loaded alternates between a subframe data set and an inverted subframe data set.
- 17. The method of claim 12, wherein the plurality of LUT data sets comprise sets corresponding to inverted subframes.

No. 08/801,994, which was filed on Feb. 18, 1997 now U.S. Pat. No. 6,078,303, which is a continuation-in-part (CIP) of U.S. patent application Ser. No. 08/770,233, which was filed on Dec. 19, 1996 now U.S. Pat. No. 5,920,298. This application is also a CIP of U.S. patent application Ser. Nos. 08/920,602 and 08/920,603, both of which were filed on Aug. 27, 1997 now U.S. Pat. Nos. 6,104,367 and 6,144,353. This present application hereby claims the benefit of these earlier filing dates under 35 U.S.C. § 120.
