Claims
- 1. A timer for controlling an appliance, comprising:a rotatable cam-carrying member having cam surfaces thereon, a timing motor having a rotor that rotates in response to electrical stimulation, a drive mechanism for causing rotation of said rotatable cam-carrying member in response to rotation of said rotor, a plurality of cam-actuated switches, each cam-actuated switch comprising first and second metal switch arms, a plurality of said metal switch arms being mounted in a first wafer and a plurality of said metal switch arms being mounted in a second wafer, and a first switch wafer mounting receiving said first and second wafers with said second wafer being stacked atop the first wafer, wherein at least one of said first and second wafers includes standard switch arms and switch arms of different widths and/or made of different metals.
- 2. The timer of claim 1 further comprising a third wafer having a plurality of said switch arms.
- 3. The timer of claim 1 wherein said switch arms of different widths or different metals have a carrying capacity greater than that of said standard switch arms.
- 4. The timer of claim 3 wherein said carrying capacity is in the range of 15 amps to 25 amps.
- 5. The timer of claim 3 wherein said carrying capacity is at least 20 amps.
- 6. The timer of claim 1 wherein each of said switch arms of the timer are connected to a dryer by means of a connector block.
- 7. The timer of claim 6 wherein said connector block comprises a plurality of individual connectors mounted in an insulating structure, wherein each connector is further operatively connected to at least one wire, said at least one wire being operatively connected to said dryer.
- 8. The timer of claim 1 further comprising a plurality of said switch arms being mounted in a third wafer and a plurality of said switch arms being mounted in a fourth wafer.
- 9. The timer of claim 8 further comprising a second switch wafer mounting receiving said third and fourth wafers with said fourth wafer being stacked atop said third wafer.
- 10. The timer of claim 9, wherein at least one of said third and fourth wafers includes standard switch arms and switch arms of different widths and/or made of different metals.
- 11. The timer of claim 9, wherein the rotatable cam carrying member has an axial centerline, and wherein said first and second wafers are located on a first side of said axial centerline and said third and fourth wafers are located on a s second side of said axial centerline.
- 12. The timer of claim 11, wherein said plurality of switch arms mounted in said first wafer and said plurality of switch arms mounted in said second wafer overlie said rotatable cam-carrying member on said first side of said axial centerline, and wherein said plurality of switch arms mounted in said third wafer and said plurality of switch arms mounted in said fourth wafer overlie said rotatable cam-carrying member on said second side of said axial centerline.
- 13. The timer of claim 9, wherein the rotatable cam-carrying member has an axial centerline, and wherein said first and second wafers and said third and fourth wafers are each located on a first side of said axial centerline.
- 14. The timer of claim 13, wherein said plurality of switch arms mounted in said first wafer and said plurality of switch arms mounted in said second wafer overlie said rotatable cam-carrying member on said first side of said axial centerline, and wherein said plurality of switch arms mounted in said third wafer and said plurality of switch arms mounted in said fourth wafer overlie said rotatable cam-carrying member on said first side of said axial centerline.
- 15. The timer of claim 9, further comprising a plurality of connector blocks, each of said connector blocks being operatively connected to at least two of said switch arms.
- 16. The timer of claim 9, further comprising a first connector block and a second connector block, wherein said switch arms in said first wafer and said second wafer are connected to said first connector block, and wherein said switch arms in said third wafer and said fourth wafer are connected to said second connector block.
