Claims
- 1. A monochelate of pentacoordinated tin of valency IV having the formula: ##STR4## in which: the symbols R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, which may be identical or different, are each an optionally substituted, monovalent C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 hydrocarbon radical;
- the symbols R.sub.3 and R.sub.5, which may be identical or different, are each a radical R.sub.1 or R.sub.2, a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkoxy radical or a silyl radical Si(R.sub.1).sub.3 ;
- the symbol R.sub.4 is a hydrogen atom, or an optionally halogenated C.sub.1-C.sub.8 hydrocarbon radical, with the proviso that R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 may together form, with the carbon atoms from which they depend, a divalent C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 cyclic hydrocarbon radical or a substituted such radical bearing at least one chlorine, nitro and/or cyano substituent; and
- the symbol X is a monocarboxylate radical of the formula R.sub.6 COO in which the symbol R.sub.6 has the same definition as R.sub.1 above.
- 2. A process for the preparation of a tin monochelate of the formula (1) as defined by claim 1, comprising reacting a tin oxide of the formula:
- R.sub.1 R.sub.2 SnO (2)
- with a .beta.-dicarbonyl compound of the formula: ##STR5## and with an organic carboxylic acid of the formula:
- XH (4)
- and removing the water of reaction.
- 3. The process as defined by claim 2, wherein the starting materials (2), (3) and (4) are employed in the molar ratios: (3)/(4) ranging from 0.4 to 2.5 and (2) ranging from 1/0.8 to 1/3.
- 4. The process as defined by claim 2, wherein a first stage the compounds of formulae (2) and (4) are reacted to produce, after removal of water, the distannoxane of the formula:
- XR.sub.1 R.sub.2 SnOSnR.sub.1 R.sub.2 X (5)
- and wherein a second stage the distannoxane (5) is reacted with the .beta.-dicarbonyl compound (3), with removal of water.
