Claims
- 1. A tissue core biopsy cannula, comprising:
- a member having a wall and a distal end,
- wherein the wall defines an opening at the distal end for receiving tissue, and
- wherein a first half of the distal end of the wall lies in a first plane and a second half of the distal end of the wall lies in a second plane at an acute angle to the first plane.
- 2. The tissue core biopsy cannula of claim 1, wherein the angle is approximately sixty degrees.
- 3. The tissue core biopsy cannula of claim 1, wherein the member is a substantially cylindrical tube.
- 4. The tissue core biopsy cannula of claim 1, wherein the distal end of the wall includes a cutting edge.
- 5. The tissue core biopsy cannula of claim 1, further comprising a stylet for insertion into the member, the stylet including a distal tip configured to occlude the opening when the stylet inserts into the member.
- 6. The tissue core biopsy cannula of claim 5, wherein the distal tip lies in more than one plane.
- 7. A tissue core biopsy cannula, comprising:
- a member having a wall and a distal end,
- wherein the wall defines an opening at the distal end for receiving tissue, and
- wherein the distal end of the wall lies in more than one plane, a first portion of the distal end of the wall lies in a first plane and a second portion of the distal end of the wall lies in a second plane, and the first and second planes intersect along a line, the line forming an angle with a longitudinal axis of the member.
- 8. The tissue core biopsy cannula of claim 7, wherein the angle is acute.
- 9. The tissue core biopsy cannula of claim 8, wherein the angle is approximately twenty degrees.
- 10. A tissue core biopsy cannula, comprising:
- a member having a wall and a distal end,
- wherein the wall defines an opening at the distal end for receiving tissue, and
- wherein the distal end of the wall lies in more than one plane, and the opening has a cardioid shape.
- 11. A tissue core biopsy cannula, comprising:
- a member having a wall and a distal end,
- wherein the wall defines an opening at the distal end for receiving tissue, and
- wherein the distal end of the wall lies in more than one plane, and the member defines at least one side opening in the wall for securing a tissue sample inside the distal end of the member.
- 12. The tissue core biopsy cannula of claim 11, wherein the side opening is a hole.
- 13. The tissue core biopsy cannula of claim 11, wherein the side opening is a slit.
- 14. A tissue core biopsy cannula, comprising:
- a substantially cylindrical tube having a wall and a distal end,
- wherein the wall defines an opening at the distal end for receiving tissue and includes a cutting edge for severing tissue, and
- wherein the distal end of the wall includes a first portion lying in a first plane and a second portion lying in a second plane, and the tube defines a lumen having a longitudinal axis, the first and second planes intersecting along a line that forms an acute angle with the longitudinal axis.
- 15. The tissue core biopsy cannula of claim 14, wherein the tube includes a side opening in the wall.
