Claims
- 1. As an article of manufacture, controllably abradable coked grains for obtaining titanium values therefrom comprising TiO.sub.2 and a carbonaceous material in a weight ratio of from 1.5 to 2.5:1, respectively, of a hydrogen content of less than 0.2% by weight, as a binder therefor 0.25% to 1.00% per dry weight of the TiO.sub.2 and carbonaceous material, a mesh size from 8 to 150; a crushing strength from 100 to 2000 g/mmD, and a pore size of 1 to 50 microns.
- 2. The articles of manufacture according to claim 1, wherein the analysis of said grains is as follows, in percent by weight:
- ______________________________________TiO.sub.2 C Fe.sub.T Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 SiO.sub.250-55 20-30 5-10 3-5 3-5CaO MgO H V.sub.2 O.sub.5 Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 L.O.I.0.6-1.0 3.0-5.0 0.1-0.3 0.3-0.5 0.05-0.15 18-28,______________________________________
- wherein Fe.sub.T is total iron content present expressed as elemental iron.
- 3. The articles of manufacture as defined in claim 1, wherein the grains have the following composition for a titanium dioxide containing slag:coal and, as a binder, cellulose sulfonate, wherein the same are in a ratio of about 100:50:0.4:
- ______________________________________TiO.sub.2 C Fe.sub.T Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 SiO.sub.252.5 24.4 7.7 4.9 4.7CaO MgO H V.sub.2 O.sub.5 Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3. L.O.I.0.8 3.9 0.17 0.4 0.1 23.3,______________________________________
- wherein Fe.sub.T is total iron content present, expressed as elemental iron.
