Claims
- 1. A method for obtaining a tocotrienol rich fraction (TRF) from a biological source comprising the steps of:(a) extracting the biological source with an organic solvent; (b) separating the biological source from the organic solvent; (c) heating the extracted and separated biological source; and (d) extracting the TRF from the heated, separated biological source.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the biological source is a plant source.
- 3. The method according to claim 2, wherein the plant source is selected from the group consisting of oats, peanuts, pine nuts, oat bran, oat bran oil, barley, barley bran, barley bran oil, rice, rice bran and rice bran oil.
- 4. The method according to claim 3, wherein the plant source is rice bran or rice bran oil.
- 5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the heating of step (c) is accomplished with microwave heat.
- 6. A TRF produced by the method according to any one of claims 1-5.
- 7. A pharmaceutical composition comprising:the TRF according to claim 6; and, a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
- 8. A foodstuff comprising the TRF according to claim 6.
- 9. A dietary supplement comprising the TRF according to claim 6.
- 10. A method for treating a hypercholesteremic, thrombotic, oxidative, inflammatory, or immunoregulatory disease or condition in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to said subject a composition according to claim 7.
- 11. A method for treating a hypercholesteremic, thrombotic, oxidative, inflammatory, or immunoregulatory disease or condition in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to said subject a composition according to claim 8.
- 12. A method for treating a hypercholesteremic, thrombotic, oxidative, inflammatory, or immunoregulatory disease or condition in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to said subject a composition according to claim 9.
