- 2. An assembly tool as set forth in claim 1 wherein said body section has a generally cylindrical configuration, said lug means including a plurality of lug elements which project radially outwardly from said body section at spaced apart locations about the circumference of said body section.
- 3. An assembly tool as set forth in claim 1 wherein said first end portion further includes positioning means extending from said retainer means in a direction away from said breakaway portion for telescopically engaging an inner side surface of an O-ring in the socket to hold the O-ring in a circular configuration.
- 4. An assembly tool for limiting the torque applied to a socket having locking elements for engaging a plug to hold the plug in a cavity in the socket, said assembly tool comprising a first end portion adapted to be inserted into the cavity in the socket, a second end portion adapted to be engaged by a wrench, and a breakaway portion interconnecting the first and second end portions for fracturing upon application of a predetermined torque to said second end portion by a wrench, said first end portion of said assembly tool including a body section, a plurality of lug means projecting outwardly from said body section for engaging recesses formed in the socket to hold said assembly tool against rotation relative to the socket upon application of torque to said second end portion by a wrench, retainer means for engaging the locking elements in the socket to hold said assembly tool against withdrawal from the cavity in the socket, and positioning means extending from said retainer means in a direction away from said breakaway portion for telescopically engaging an inner side surface of an O-ring in the socket to hold the O-ring in a circular configuration.
- 5. An assembly tool as set forth in claim 4 wherein said body section has a generally cylindrical configuration, said lug means including a plurality of lug elements which project radially outwardly from said body section at spaced apart locations about the circumference of said body section.
- 6. A combination comprising a socket of a plug and socket type fluid coupling, said socket having first threads for engaging second threads on a member upon which said socket is to be mounted, said socket including surface means for defining a cavity for receiving a plug of the plug and socket type fluid coupling and a plurality of locking elements for engaging the plug to hold the plug in the cavity in said socket, said locking elements being movable relative to said socket between an engaged condition in which said locking elements extend into the cavity in said socket to engage the plug and retain the plug in the cavity in said socket and a release condition in which said locking elements are at least partially withdrawn from the cavity in said socket and are ineffective to retain said plug in the cavity in said socket, assembly tool means for transmitting force from a wrench to said socket to tighten an interconnection between the first threads on said socket and the second threads on the member upon which the socket is to be mounted, said assembly tool means having a first end portion adapted to be inserted into the cavity in said socket, a second end portion adapted to be engaged by a wrench, and a breakaway portion interconnecting the first and second end portions for fracturing upon application of a predetermined torque to said second end portion by a wrench to tighten the interconnection between the first threads on said socket and the second the threads on the member upon which the socket is to be mounted, said first end portion of said assembly tool means including a body section, a plurality of lug means connected with said body section for engaging recesses formed in said socket to hold said assembly tool means against rotation relative to said socket upon application of torque to said end portion by a wrench, and retainer means for engaging said locking elements when said locking elements are in the engaged condition extending into the cavity in said socket to hold said assembly tool means against withdrawal from the cavity in said socket.
- 7. A combination as set forth in claim 6 wherein said body section has a generally cylindrical configuration, said lug means including a plurality of lug elements which project radially outwardly from said body section at spaced apart locations about the circumference of said body section.
- 8. A combination as set forth in claim 6 wherein said body section has a first axial end portion connected with said breakaway portion, said retainer means including recess means connected with a second axial end portion of said body section for receiving the locking elements on said socket to hold said assembly tool means in the plug receiving cavity in said socket.
- 9. A combination as set forth in claim 6 wherein said first end portion of said assembly tool means further includes positioning means extending from said retainer means in a direction way from said breakaway portion for engaging an 0-ring in said socket to hold the O-ring in a circular configuration.
- 10. An assembly tool for limiting the torque applied to a socket having locking elements for engaging a plug to hold the plug in a cavity in the socket, said assembly tool comprising a first end portion adapted to be inserted into the cavity in the socket, a second end portion adapted to be engaged by a wrench, and a breakaway portion interconnecting the first and second end portions for fracturing upon application of a predetermined torque to said second end portion by a wrench, said first end portion of said assembly tool including a body section, a plurality of lug means for engaging recesses formed in the socket to hold said assembly tool against rotation relative to the socket upon application of torque to said second end portion by a wrench, and retainer means for engaging the locking elements in the socket to hold said assembly tool against withdrawal from the cavity in the socket, said retainer means including surface means connected with a second axial end portion of said body section for engaging the locking elements on the socket to hold said assembly tool in the plug receiving cavity in the socket, said retainer means being disposed on a side of said lug means opposite from said breakaway portion.
- 11. An assembly tool as set forth in claim 10 wherein said first end portion further includes positioning means extending from said retainer means in a direction away from said breakaway portion for holding an O-ring in the socket in a circular configuration.
