Claims
- 1. A web construction of linerless reclosable diaper fastener stock made up of initially flat but flexible layers suitable to be formed in long passes along the machine direction of a coating and laminating line and to be rolled up for storage and shipment, and unrolled for use by diaper manufacturers to make diaper fasteners, and fabricatable completely by web coating, slitting and web-to-web laminating operations and without the necessity for folding operations and usable for high-speed dispensing on automatic equipment, said stock having a stock length extending in the machine direction and a stock width extending transversely to the machine direction, said stock including a first substrate bearing first substrate adhesive on its underside, and one or more additional substrates bearing one or more corresponding substrate adhesives, said stock width being of sufficient size to form by slitting a plurality of said diaper fasteners having fastener lengths aligned transversely to the machine direction, each fastener extending along first and second fastener length portions, said diaper fastener being mountable around the edge of a diaper with said first substrate constituting an anchoring substrate and said second fastener length portions of said one or more additional substrates comprising deployment means separable from said second length portion of said anchoring substrate for deployment and engagement with another part of the diaper, and end-tab means associated with a free end of said deployment means, a plurality of continuous lines or zones of adhesive-inhibiting masking extending in the machine direction along said substrate adhesive associated with at least one of said at least one or more additional substrates, said lines or zones extending across said second fastener length portions to define said end-tab means on the substrate adhesive associated with said at least one substrate.
- 2. A construction as in claim 1, wherein said adhesive-inhibiting masking has a thickness equal to less than 1 percent of the combined thickness of said at least one substrate and associated adhesive, whereby said diaper fastener stock has a substantially uniform edge-to-edge thickness, said stock may be tightly rolled, and the layer edges at both sides of the roll of said stock are solidly supported by adjacent layer edges.
- 3. A construction as in claim 1, wherein said stock includes a second additional substrate, a second plurality of continuous lines or zones of adhesive-inhibiting masking extending in the machine direction along said substrate adhesive associated with said second additional substrate, said second lines or zones extending across said second fastener length portions to define end-tab means on the substrate adhesive associated with said second additional substrate.
- 4. A construction as in claim 1, wherein one of said plurality of continuous lines or zones extends along an edge of said substrate adhesive associated with said at least one substrate at a transverse extremity of said stock to form a pick-free stock edge.
- 5. A construction as in claim 4, wherein said pick-free stock edge is remote of said second fastener length portions.
- 6. A construction as in claim 1, wherein said adhesive-inhibiting masking is printed on said adhesive substrate.
- 7. A web construction of linerless reclosable diaper fastener stock made up of initially flat but flexible layers suitable to be formed in long passes along the machine direction of a coating and laminating line and to be rolled up for storage and shipment, and unrolled for use by diaper manufacturers, and fabricatable completely by web coating, slitting and web-to-web laminating operations and without the necessity for folding operations and usable for high-speed dispensing on automatic equipment, said stock having a stock length extending in the machine direction and a stock width extending transversely to the machine direction, said stock including a first substrate bearing first substrate adhesive on its underside, and extending, transversely to the machine direction, along first and second length portions, and one or more and additional substrates bearing one or more corresponding substrate adhesives and extending along said first and second length portions, said stock width being of sufficient size to form by slitting a plurality of said diaper fasteners having fastener lengths aligned transversely to the machine direction, each fastener being mountable around the edge of a diaper with said first substrate constituting an anchoring substrate and said second length portions of said one or more additional substrates comprising deployment means separable from said second length portion of said anchoring substrate for deployment and engagement with another part of the diaper, and end-tab means associated with a free end of said deployment means, said end-tab means being associated with at least one of said at least one or more additional substrates and being defined by adhesive-inhibiting masking means printed on the substrate adhesive associated with said at least one substrate.
- 8. A construction as in claim 7, wherein said adhesive-inhibiting masking means comprises a printed continuous line or zone extending along said substrate adhesive associated with said at least one substrate and across said second length portions.
- 9. A construction as in claim 7, wherein said diaper fastener stock further includes a pick-free stock edge, said pick-free stock edge also being defined by said adhesive-inhibiting masking means and comprising a continuous line or zone of masking agent extending along an edge of said substrate adhesive associated with said at least one substrate at a transverse extremity of said stock.
- 10. A construction as in claim 7, wherein said stock includes a second additional substrate, a second plurality of continuous lines or zones of adhesive-inhibiting masking extending in the machine direction along said substrate adhesive associated with said second additional substrate, said second lines or zones extending across said second length portions to define end-tab means on the substrate adhesive associated with said second additional substrate.
- 11. A construction as in claim 7, wherein said adhesive-inhibiting masking means has a thickness equal to less than 1 percent of the combined thickness of said at least one substrate and associated adhesive, whereby said diaper fastener stock has a substantially uniform edge-to-edge thickness, said stock may be tightly rolled, and the layer edges at both sides of the roll of said stock are solidly supported by adjacent layer edges.
