Abstract
The present invention is directed to topical compositions for smoothing and coloring facial skin, and processes for making and using said compositions.
Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to topical compositions for instantly smoothing and coloring skin, and processes for making said compositions.

BACKGROUND

Several topical, instant anti-wrinkle products available to consumers quickly and temporarily tighten the skin, reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles and undereye swelling. However, a common consumer complaint is that the anti-wrinkle products do not provide color coverage for the skin and are not compatible with other makeup products. When using the anti-wrinkle products, the additional application of a makeup composition to provide color to the skin (for instance foundation, tinted moisturizer, concealer, or other makeup) on top of the anti-wrinkle product breaks the bond created by the anti-wrinkle composition and disrupts the temporary anti-wrinkle effect, or is otherwise incompatible with the anti-wrinkle composition, for instance due to unsightly effects from their combined application. Instant anti-wrinkle products currently available to consumers include Plexaderm Rapid Reduction Serum, Strivectin Hyperlift Eye, Peter Thomas Roth Instant FIRMx Eye, and Jeunesse Instantly Ageless.

Upon discovering that the anti-wrinkle compositions are not compatible with their makeup, consumers may need to purchase and try a wide variety of foundations, tinted moisturizers, concealers, and so forth to find one that may have some compatibility with the anti-wrinkle product they are attempting to pair it with.

US Patent Application No. 2021/0093539 discloses cosmetic compositions to treat or prevent wrinkles, fine lines, skin discoloration, and the like, however, the compositions do not describe an instant anti-wrinkle effect.

The present invention attempts to solve these problems, as well as others.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Described herein is a topical composition that, when applied to the skin, provides both instant smoothing effects and provides color coverage would be useful for consumers interested in both features.

The composition and methods are set forth in part in the description which follows, and in part will be obvious from the description, or can be learned by practice of the composition and methods. The advantages of the compositions and methods will be realized and attained by means of the elements and combinations particularly pointed out in the appended claims. It is to be understood that both the foregoing general description and the following detailed description are exemplary and explanatory only and are not restrictive of the composition and methods, as claimed.

The present invention is directed to instant coloring and smoothing compositions that, upon topical application to skin, immediately color and smooth the skin for instance by reducing the appearance of wrinkles and reducing swelling such as undereye swelling or “bags”. In an embodiment, the compositions are compatible with other makeup products. In addition, the present invention is directed to methods for preparing these compositions.

In an embodiment, a composition of this invention comprises, consists essentially of, or consists of Purified Water, Propylene Glycol, Titanium Dioxide, Sodium Silicate, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Glycerin, Isododecane, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cellulose Gum, Sodium Carboxymethylcellulose, Sodium Polyacrylate, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Soluble Collagen, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, CI 77492 (Iron Oxide Yellow), CI 77491 (Iron Oxide Red), CI 77499 (Iron Oxide Black), Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.

In one embodiment, the composition uses pre-mixed colorants by Kobo, more specifically Kobo GLW75PFSP (for white) GLW45GYSP (for yellow), GLW55GRSP (for red) and GL60GBSP (black), with each being pre-dispersed colorants in water, glycerin, sodium polyacrylate, cellulose gum, to help provide consistent color and less mixing time.

In an embodiment, a composition of this invention is prepared by a process comprising the steps of Charging the tank with the purified water. With both main mixing, side sweep agitation at a minimum of 25-35 RPM and a homogenizer mixer mounted at the bottom of the tank, blending in each colorant blend one at a time and mix until homogenous. Continuing agitation, slowly adding in the each of the following ingredients one at a time, not continuing until each is fully dispersed: Sodium Hyaluronate, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Glycerin, Xanthan Gum, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Carboxymethylcellulose, Sodium Silicate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin. Continuing agitation and recirculating tank by using a rotary pump to draw from the bottom of the tank and pump the batch back to the top of the tank to provide consistent mixing from top to bottom. Adjusting pH if necessary and no heat is needed.

In another embodiment, the composition of the invention comprising, consisting essentially of, or consisting of water, Hyaluronic Acid, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, glycerin, xanthan gum, propylene glycol, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, sodium silicate, Phenoxyethanol Ethylhexylglycerin, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, acetyl hexapeptide-8, and soluble collagen in a cream for topical application; wherein the topical composition decreases wrinkles under eye bags or periorbital edema of the face within 15 minutes of topical application of the topical composition. In an embodiment, these components are present in amounts indicated in Tables 4 and 5. The compositions are for topical application to the skin and provide both color coverage and instant smoothing effects. In one embodiment, Hyaluronic Acid is at about 1%/weight of the topical composition, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate is about 2.25%/weight of the topical composition, glycerin is about 0.5%/weight of the topical composition, xanthan gum is about 1%/weight of the topical composition, propylene glycol is about 7%/weight of the topical composition, sodium carboxymethylcellulose is at about 1%/weight of the topical composition, sodium silicate is at about 5.5%/weight of the topical composition, Phenoxyethanol Ethylhexylglycerin is about 1%/weight of the topical composition, Trimethylsiloxysilicate is at about 2%/weight of the topical composition, acetyl hexapeptide-8 is at about 0.5%/weight of the topical composition, and soluble collagen is at about 0.5%/weight of the topical composition.

Other anti-wrinkle products that provide a tightening effect typically work as a film former. The effects of the product vary based on the combination of ingredients used to create that film, as well as plasticizers for flexibility and durability of the film. Some add a bit of cosmetic colorants to help mask the imperfections of the formulation or mask the whitening effects common with other tightening products, however, adding too high a level of colorants can interfere with the film forming and either accentuate any cracks in the tightening effects or even break down the film layer so no effect is realized at all. Additionally, the application of other topicals, more specifically those containing oils or other lipophilic materials, before or after use of the typical tightening product can breakdown that film, resulting in less or no tightening benefits at all.

This topical composition has solved the film forming structure to give more flexibility and durability, providing greater tightening and less whitening effect. Additionally, this invention incorporates a silicone resin and volatile cyclic silicone, whereas once evaporation of the volatile cyclic silicone or cyclomethicone, the film is enhanced, making it more durable and protecting the effects from other incompatible ingredients.

In an embodiment, a composition of the present invention is a cream. In an embodiment, a composition of the present invention is a cosmetic composition or is incorporated into a cosmetic composition such as foundation, concealer, or tinted moisturizer. The characteristics and properties of the cream can also be an opaque gel consistency, or alternatively in a liquid form

The topical composition utilizes silicone, in place of synthetic or natural oils, triglycerides and other lipophylic materials, to provide spreadability of the colorants. The silicone has film-forming properties and is known to provide a level of protection from water and other ingredients. The type of silicone used is a highly cross-linked silicone resin, more specifically Trimethylsiloxysilicate, which adds to the film-forming structure of the invention, provides water-resistance and minimize the breakdown of that film. The present topical composition also incorporates Isododecane as an emollient and a volatile solvent for the higher molecular weight of the silicone used, which then evaporates upon application to the skin.

While the invention can be made without silicones, the spreadability and extended time of firming and tightening benefits, without cracking and whitening, is greatly extended, overcoming many of the negative effects from other previous inventions. Another important factor is the pH of the final product, about 9 to about 13 pH, more preferably about 10.0 to about 12.0.

Different variations in the level and ratios of the cosmetic colorants provide for better skin tone matching, not only in the US, but especially in other regions of the world where some may have lighter or darker skin. Additionally, two versions of this topical compositions can be combined to create a more customized experience. This can be done at the consumer level or with dual chamber packaging or other types of dispensing mechanisms.

Different levels of Hyaluronic Acid/Sodium Hyaluronate can provide different levels of hydration, visibly plumping up the skin from the inside. The molecular weights of the HA also play a role, in this embodiment, we used <100 k daltons.

The levels of glycerin may vary to provide additional flexibility in the film forming effects, as well as to act as solvents to help with the dispersion of colorants.

The level of Titanium Dioxide can be varied to vary the color of the final product, as well as the intensity of the color, since the TiO2 also creates a background color of canvas, helping the colorants to show more or richer.

Sodium Polyacrylate can be adjusted to improve stability of the product, as well as viscosity.

Preservatives, Phenoxyethanol and Ethylhexylglycerin, are not proprietary and can be substituted as needed for other suitable preservatives.

Other non-colorant adjustments can be varied for obvious reasons, known to anyone skilled in the art.

Without being bound by theory, in an embodiment, a component of a composition may provide more than one function, or in an embodiment, may provide only 1 specified function. In an embodiment, components of the present compositions provide the functions identified in Tables 1a and 1b.
