This device was developed and the idea for its' operation was formed to give the hvac service tech the ability to allow a heating unit to continue to operate safely when the draft induce fan is inoperable, until the correct draft induce fan is acquired and installed on the heating unit. Usually, the draft induce fan would have to be replaced to safely operate the heating unit and sometimes it may take several days to acquire the correct model needed.
This device is designed to pull air in and produce the draft needed through the inoperable draft induce fan sufficiently enough to cause the vacuum to close the pressure switch that will initiate startup and allow the heating unit to operate safely without having to immediately replace the units draft induce fan.
The first step in assembling this device is to assemble the three parts that makeup the
Remove the exhaust pipe from the heating unit and place the topside draft induce fan in its place. Reinstall the exhaust pipe onto the out-flow exhaust side of the topside draft induce fan,
making sure the exhaust pipes are installed correctly. Unplug the old draft induce fan's electrical supply and use that voltage, along with one of the electrical connection adaptors provided to connect to and power the topside draft induce fan. When the heating unit is turned on, vacuum is created sufficiently enough through the non-operating draft induce fan to close the bellow/pressure switch, which will send voltage to the igniter causing it to heat up, the gas regulator valve will open to release gas to the burner and the heating unit will light. This top-side draft induce fan is utilizing the old draft induce fan's power source, pulling the vacuum and drafting the exhaust in the same manner the old draft induce fan was intended to. The only thing disconnected and reconnected on the heating unit is the power to the unit's draft induce fan and raising the exhaust pipe off the heating unit, installing the topside draft induce fan on.
the exhaust side of the unit's draft fan and reinstalling the exhaust pipes on the exhaust out flow side of the topside draft induce fan.
This topside draft induce fan can be constructed basically from the same material that all other draft induce fans are made from. The topside unit is designed with an intake that will create negative pressure inside of a heating unit by pulling air through the non-operating draft induce fan which will allow the service technicians not to have to remove the old draft induce fan until the replacement is ready to be installed. The two models of the topside unit are designed to fit in the small space on some heating units and both will operate very efficiently on all heating units that depends of forced draft.
The topside draft induce fan will allow the heating unit to operate safely without having to bypass any component or safely features on the heating unit. The topside unit is universally designed to fit any heating unit and when properly installed will allow for safe and continued operation of the heating unit.
