Claims
- 1. A toroidal vortex debris collection system comprising:
a fluid delivery means to provide a fluid flow; a collector ring structure coupled to said fluid delivery means; a containment means coupled to said collector ring; an outer tube coupled to said fluid delivery means and said collector ring, said distal end of said outer tube being open to the atmosphere; an inner tube disposed inside said outer tube, said inner tube and said outer tube being coaxial, and further wherein the gap between said inner tube and said outer tube forms an annular duct; a guide means to guide said fluid flow out said annular delivery duct and in said inner tube, wherein said fluid flow, after flowing through said guide means has substantially the characteristics of a toroidal vortex, and further whereupon said fluid flow passes across said distal end of said outer tube, said fluid flow attracts debris and other particulate matter that is ultimately deposited in said containment means.
- 2. A debris collection system according to claim 1 wherein said fluid delivery means comprises a centrifugal blower.
- 3. A debris collection system according to claim 1 wherein said fluid delivery means comprises a rotatable impeller having a plurality of vanes.
- 4. A debris collection system according to claim 1 wherein said collector ring comprises a barrier to provide a temporary holding area for said debris.
- 5. A debris collection system according to claim 1 wherein said outer tube is cylindrical.
- 6. A debris collection system according to claim 1 wherein said inner tube is cylindrical.
- 7. A debris collection system according to claim 1 wherein said guide means comprises:
fairings coupled to said inner tube; and inwardly curved members coupled to said outer tube.
- 8. A debris collection system according to claim 1 wherein said containment means contains a pressure greater than said collector ring means in order to maintain circular flow of said fluid without preventing ejection of said debris.
- 9. A debris collection system according to claim 1 wherein said containment means comprises a compactor to catch said debris from said collector ring structure and deposit said debris in a chamber.
- 10. A debris collection system according to claim 1 wherein said containment means comprises a compactor to catch said debris from said collector ring structure and deposit said debris in a removable container.
- 11. A debris collection system according to claim 1 wherein said containment means comprises a compactor to catch said debris from said collector ring structure and deposit said debris in a garbage bag.
- 12. A debris collection system according to claim 1 wherein said containment means comprises a compactor, wherein said compactor comprises a rotating screw.
- 13. A toroidal vortex debris collection system comprising:
toroidal vortex generation means to provide a toroidal vortex fluid flow, said fluid flow capable of attracting said debris; a collector ring structure coupled to said toroidal vortex generation means for temporarily containing said debris carried in said toroidal vortex fluid flow; a containment means coupled to said collector ring for ultimately receiving said debris from said collector ring structure.
- 14. A debris collection system according to claim 13 wherein said toroidal vortex generation means comprises a centrifugal blower.
- 15. A debris collection system according to claim 13 wherein said toroidal vortex generation means comprises an outer tube, an inner tube disposed therein, and a nozzle coupled thereto open to the atmosphere.
- 16. A debris collection system according to claim 13 wherein said toroidal vortex generation means comprises an outer tube, an inner tube disposed therein, a nozzle coupled thereto open to the atmosphere, and further comprising a centrifugal blower.
- 17. A debris collection system according to claim 13 wherein said collector ring structure comprises a barrier to provide a temporary holding area for said debris.
- 18. A debris collection system according to claim 13 wherein said containment means comprises a compactor to catch said debris from said collector +ring structure and deposit said debris in a chamber.
- 19. A debris collection system according to claim 13 wherein said containment means comprises a compactor to catch said debris from said collector ring and deposit said debris in a removable container.
- 20. A debris collection system according to claim 13 wherein said containment means comprises a compactor to catch said debris from said collector ring structure and deposit said debris in a garbage bag.
- 21. A debris collection system according to claim 13 wherein said containment means comprises a compactor, wherein said compactor comprises a rotating screw.
- 22. A method for collecting debris, comprising the steps of:
generating a toroidal vortex flow; utilizing said toroidal vortex flow to attract said debris; centrifugally separating said debris from said fluid flow; and depositing said debris in a chamber.
