Claims
- 1. Torque transmitting apparatus with an arrangement for taking up and for compensating for variations of torque, particularly for fluctuations of torque between a combustion engine and input means of a transmission, comprising a plurality coaxial flywheels which are rotatable within limits relative to each other and include a first flywheel connectable with the engine and a second flywheel connectable with the input means of the transmission by way of a friction clutch having a clutch plate engageable by a friction surface of the second flywheel with attendant generation of heat; bearing means interposed between said first and second flywheels; and heat insulating means for at least reducing the transfer of heat from said friction surface to said bearing means, said insulating means constituting the sole means for offering frictional resistance to rotation of said first and second flywheels relative to each other and including axially acting resilient means for generating said frictional resistance.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said bearing means comprises at least one antifriction bearing including a race which supports and is rotatable with said second flywheel, said second flywheel having a sea for said race and said insulating means being disposed between said seat and said race, said first flywheel having a portion which is provided with a first friction generating part and said insulating means including at least one second friction generating part in engagement with said first friction generating part.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein said insulating means includes a substantially radially extending portion and said at least one said second friction generating part is provided on said radially extending portion.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said bearing means includes a race and said second flywheel has a seat for said race, said insulating means including a substantially cylindrical portion between said race and said seat.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said insulating means includes at least one ring having a substantially L-shaped cross-sectional outline and including a substantially cylindrical portion surrounding said bearing means and a second portion extending radially of said bearing means.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein said bearing means includes a first race which is surrounded by the cylindrical portion of said ring and a second race fixed to said first flywheel, said second portion of said ring at least partially overlapping said second race and said insulating means further including a friction generating part which bears against said second race.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said first flywheel has a friction generating part and said insulating means includes at least one ring having a radially extending portion overlapping said friction generating part, said resilient means including means for biasing said radially extending portion toward said friction generating part.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said resilient means includes at least one diaphragm spring.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein said insulating means includes a radially extending portion having a first friction generating part, said bearing means including a second friction generating part adjacent said first friction generating part, said spring including a first portion reacting against said second flywheel and a second portion arranged to urge said first friction generating part against said second friction generating part, said first portion of said spring being disposed radially outwardly of the second portion of said spring, the second portion of said spring and said friction generating parts being disposed at the same distance from the axis of said second flywheel.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said bearing means includes a race which is rotatable with said second flywheel, said insulating means comprising two rings each having a substantially L-shaped cross-sectional outline and each including a first portion surrounding said race and a second portion extending radially of said race and having a friction generating part.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein said resilient means includes two energy storing elements one of which stores a larger amount of energy than the other thereof and each of which bears axially against one of said second portions.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein said bearing means includes an antifriction bearing which is biased axially by said one energy storing element, the clutch being disengageable in response to the application of a force acting in the axial direction of said second flywheel couter to the force of said one energy storing element.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said resilient means of said insulating means includes means for sealing said bearing means.
