Claims
- 1. A tourniquet padding, comprising:
a cover sheet having a first surface, a second surface, a length, and distal and proximal edge portions extending along the length, the second surface of the cover sheet having anti-slip properties; and a padding material disposed on the first surface of the cover sheet and extending the length of the cover sheet between the distal and proximal edge portions, the padding material having a length and width sized for receiving a tourniquet thereon; and at least the distal portion of the cover sheet sized for being placed onto the tourniquet disposed on the padding material.
- 2. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, wherein the cover sheet comprises one or more adhesive elements disposed on the second surface of the sheet.
- 3. The tourniquet padding of claim 2, wherein the adhesive elements are frictionally adhesive.
- 4. The tourniquet padding of claim 3, wherein the adhesive elements comprise a material selected from the group consisting of latex rubber, silicon rubber, and polyvinyl chloride.
- 5. The tourniquet padding of claim 2, wherein the adhesive elements comprise a biocompatible adhesive material that is adherable to skin.
- 6. The tourniquet padding of claim 2, further comprising a slip sheet releasably attached to the adhesive elements disposed on the cover sheet.
- 7. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, wherein the length of the cover sheet is sufficient to be wrapped around an extremity of a person.
- 8. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, wherein the cover sheet comprises a non-woven material.
- 9. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, wherein the cover sheet comprises a material selected from the group consisting of paper, reinforced scrim material, crepe, cloth, terry cloth, cheesecloth, plastic, and combinations thereof.
- 10. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, wherein the cover sheet comprises a polymer film material.
- 11. The tourniquet padding of claim 10, wherein the cover sheet comprises a stretch cling plastic material.
- 12. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, wherein the cover sheet comprises a laminate selected from the group consisting of a laminate of tissue and a non-woven material, a laminate of tissue and a woven material, a laminate of a polymer film and a non-woven or woven material, and a laminate of a polyurethane foam and a polymer film.
- 13. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, wherein the cover sheet comprises a breathable material.
- 14. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, wherein at least the second surface of the cover sheet comprises a liquid-repellent material.
- 15. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, wherein the distal edge portion of the cover sheet comprises perforations, slits, or a combination thereof, to separate the edge portion into sections.
- 16. The tourniquet padding of claim 2, further comprising a slip sheet releasably attached to the adhesive elements on the cover sheet.
- 17. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, wherein the proximal edge portion of the cover sheet is gathered.
- 18. The tourniquet padding of claim 17, wherein the proximal edge portion of the cover sheet is pleated or crimped.
- 19. The tourniquet padding of claim 17, wherein the cover sheet further comprises an elastic element attached to the proximal edge portion.
- 20. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, wherein at least one of the distal edge portion and the proximal edge portion have a width sufficient for covering a tourniquet positioned on the padding material of the tourniquet padding.
- 21. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, further comprising an adhesive member for securing the proximal and distal edge portions together.
- 22. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, further comprising one or more adhesive elements attached to at least a portion of the second surface of the cover sheet, the adhesive element having a length sufficient to be wrapped around an extremity of a person.
- 23. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, wherein the cover sheet comprises one or more perforated lines.
- 24. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, wherein the padding material comprises cast padding.
- 25. The tourniquet padding of claim 1, wherein the padding material comprises a foam material.
- 26. A tourniquet padding, comprising:
a cover sheet having a first surface, a second surface, a length, and distal and proximal edge portions extending along the length; the cover sheet comprising a polymer film material, and at least the second surface of the cover sheet having anti-slip properties; and a padding material disposed on the first surface of the cover sheet and extending the length of the cover sheet between the distal and proximal edge portions, the padding material having a length and width sized for receiving a tourniquet thereon; and at least the distal portion of the cover sheet sized for being placed onto the tourniquet disposed on the padding material.
- 27. The tourniquet padding of claim 26, wherein the cover sheet comprises a stretch cling plastic material.
- 28. The tourniquet padding of claim 26, wherein the polymer film material is a breathable material.
- 29. A tourniquet padding, comprising:
a cover sheet having a first surface, a second surface, a length, and distal and proximal edge portions extending along the length, the cover sheet comprising one or more adhesive elements disposed on the second surface of the sheet to provide anti-slip properties; and a padding material disposed on the first surface of the cover sheet and extending the length of the cover sheet between the distal and proximal edge portions, the padding material having a length and width sized for receiving a tourniquet thereon; and at least the distal portion of the cover sheet sized for being placed onto the tourniquet disposed on the padding material.
- 30. The tourniquet padding of claim 29, wherein at least one of the adhesive elements is frictionally adhesive.
- 31. The tourniquet padding of claim 29, wherein one or more adhesive elements are attached to at least a portion of the second surface of the cover sheet, the adhesive element having a length sufficient to be wrapped around an extremity of a person.
- 32. A tourniquet padding, comprising:
padding material disposed between a first and second cover sheet; each of the cover sheets having an inner and outer surface, a length and a width, and distal and proximal edges extending along the length; the second cover sheet comprising one or more adhesive portions disposed on the outer surface, and adhesive disposed on the outer surface along the distal edge; and the tourniquet padding having a length sufficient to be wrapped around a limb of a person; and the cover sheet having a width wider than a tourniquet such that a portion of the first cover sheet along the distal edge may be folded onto the tourniquet when positioned on the tourniquet padding; and the second cover sheet may be adhered to the skin of the person such that the tourniquet padding and tourniquet are maintained substantially in place on the limb of the person during use without slipping.
- 33. The tourniquet padding of claim 31, wherein the second cover sheet is frictionally adhered to the skin of the person.
- 34. An elongate tourniquet padding, comprising:
one or more layers of padding material disposed between a first and second cover sheet; each of the cover sheets having an inner and outer surface, a length and a width, and distal and proximal edges extending along the length; the first cover sheet being foldable along the length of the distal edge; the second cover sheet having an adhesive layer disposed on the outer surface along the distal edge, and one or more adhesive portions disposed on the outer surface; and the tourniquet padding sized for receiving a tourniquet thereon over the first cover sheet, such that the distal edge of the first cover sheet is foldable over at least a portion of the tourniquet for adherence of the adhesive layer to a surface of the tourniquet.
- 35. A tourniquet padding, comprising:
a first and second cover sheet, each of the cover sheets having an inner and outer surface, a length and a width, and distal and proximal edges extending along the length; the second cover sheet comprising one or more adhesive portions disposed on the outer surface; and the tourniquet padding having a length sufficient to be wrapped around a limb of a person; and the cover sheets having a width wider than a tourniquet such that a portion of the first cover sheet along the distal edge may be folded onto the tourniquet when positioned on the tourniquet padding; and the second cover sheet may be adhered to the skin of the person such that the tourniquet padding and tourniquet are maintained substantially in place on the limb of the person during use without slipping.
- 36. The tourniquet padding of claim 35, further comprising padding material disposed between the first and second cover sheets.
- 37. The tourniquet padding of claim 35, further comprising a layer of a liquid-impermeable material affixed to the inner surface of the first cover sheet, over the distal edge of the second cover sheet, or a combination thereof.
- 38. A tourniquet padding, comprising:
a cover sheet having a first surface, a second surface, a length, a width, and distal and proximal edges extending along the length; the second surface of the cover sheet having anti-slip properties, and the cover sheet sized for receiving a tourniquet thereon onto the first surface, with the width sized such that at least the distal portion of the cover sheet can be disposed onto the tourniquet disposed when on the cover sheet.
- 39. The tourniquet padding of claim 38, further comprising a padding material disposed on the first surface of the cover sheet and extending the length of the cover sheet between the distal and proximal edges.
- 40. The tourniquet padding of claim 38, wherein the cover sheet comprises one or more adhesive elements disposed on the second surface thereof.
- 41. A method of applying a tourniquet to a limb of a person, comprising the steps of:
wrapping a tourniquet padding according to claim 1 around a limb of a person such that the second surface of the cover sheet is adhered to the limb; positioning a tourniquet over the padding material and around the limb of the person; and placing at least the distal edge portion of the cover sheet over the tourniquet.
- 42. The method of claim 41, further comprising, after the step of placing distal edge portion of the cover sheet over the tourniquet, the step of securing together the distal and proximal edge portions of the cover sheet over the tourniquet.
- 43. The method of claim 41, further comprising, prior to the step of wrapping the tourniquet padding around the limb, the step of wrapping and securing an adhesive band element around the limb, wherein the tourniquet padding is wrapped around and secured to the adhesive band element.
- 44. The method of claim 41, further comprising the step of inflating and deflating the tourniquet about the limb of the person, wherein the anti-slip properties of cover sheet are sufficient to maintain the tourniquet padding and tourniquet substantially in place on the limb of the person during use without slipping.
- 45. The method of claim 41, wherein the cover sheet of the tourniquet padding further comprises perforations to separate the distal edge portion into sections; and the method further comprises, prior to the step of placing the edge portion of the cover sheet over the tourniquet, the step of separating the distal edge portion of the cover sheet along the perforations into sections.
- 46. The method of claim 41, wherein at least the second surface of the cover sheet of the tourniquet padding comprises a liquid-impermeable material to substantially prevent a liquid applied to the limb from contacting the padding and the tourniquet.
- 47. A method of applying a tourniquet to a limb of a person, comprising the steps of:
wrapping a tourniquet padding according to claim 4 around a limb of a person such that the adhesive elements disposed on the second surface of the cover sheet adhere to the limb; positioning a tourniquet over the padding material and around the limb of the person; and placing at least the distal edge portion of the cover sheet over the tourniquet.
- 48. A method of applying a tourniquet to a limb of a person, comprising the steps of:
wrapping a tourniquet padding according to claim 21 around a limb of a person such that the elastic element attached to the proximal edge portion of the cover sheet is stretched around the limb to maintain the tourniquet padding and tourniquet disposed thereon substantially in place on the limb of the person during use without slipping; positioning a tourniquet over the padding material and around the limb of the person; and placing at least the distal edge portion of the cover sheet over the tourniquet.
- 49. A process of making a tourniquet padding, comprising the steps of:
providing a cover sheet having a first surface, a second surface, a length, a width, and distal and proximal edge portions extending along the length; and applying a padding material onto the first surface of the cover sheet between the distal and proximal edge portions.
- 50. The process of claim 49, further comprising: applying one or more adhesive elements onto the second surface of the cover sheet.
- 51. The process of claim 49, further comprising: gathering the proximal edge portion of the cover sheet.
- 52. The process of claim 51, wherein the step of gathering the proximal edge portion of the cover sheet comprises the process of pleating or crimping.
- 53. The process of claim 51, wherein the step of gathering the proximal edge portion of the cover sheet comprises attaching an elastic element to the proximal edge portion.
- 54. The process of claim 49, further comprising: forming perforations or slits in the distal edge portion of the cover sheet to separate the distal edge portion into sections.
- 55. The process of claim 50, further comprising: applying a slip sheet onto the adhesive elements on the cover sheet.
- 56. The process of claim 49, further comprising: forming the tourniquet padding into a roll.
- 57. The process of claim 49, wherein the step of applying the padding material to the cover sheet comprises affixing the padding material with an adhesive, stitching, thermal bonding, or a combination thereof.
- 58. The process of claim 49, further comprising: attaching one or more adhesive elements to at least a portion of the second surface of the cover sheet, the adhesive element having a length sufficient to be wrapped around an extremity of a person.
- 59. A cover sheet for a tourniquet padding, comprising:
an elongate sheet of compliant material; the sheet having a first surface and a second surface, a length and a width, and distal and proximal edge portions extending along the length; the sheet comprising one or more adhesive elements disposed on the second surface.
- 60. The cover sheet of claim 59, further comprising perforations through the distal edge portion to separate the distal edge into sections.
- 61. The cover sheet of claim 59, wherein at least the proximal edge portion is gathered.
- 62. The cover sheet of claim 61, wherein the proximal edge portion of the cover sheet comprises an elastic element attached thereto.
- 63. The cover sheet of claim 59, further comprising a slip sheet disposed over the adhesive elements on the cover sheet.
- 64. The cover sheet of claim 59, wherein the compliant material comprises a material selected from the group consisting of paper, reinforced scrim material, crepe, cloth, terry cloth, cheesecloth, plastic, and combinations thereof.
- 65. The cover sheet of claim 59, wherein the compliant material comprises a stretch cling plastic material.
- 66. The cover sheet of claim 59, wherein the compliant material comprises a breathable material.
- 67. The cover sheet of claim 59, wherein the compliant material comprises a liquid-repellent material.
- 68. The cover sheet of claim 59, wherein the distal edge of the first cover layer comprises perforations, slits, or a combination thereof.
- 69. The cover sheet of claim 59, wherein the cover sheet further comprises one or more adhesive elements disposed on the second surface of the sheet.
- 70. The cover sheet of claim 69, wherein the adhesive elements are frictionally adhesive.
- 71. The cover sheet of claim 69, wherein the adhesive elements comprise a biocompatible adhesive material that is adherable to skin.
- 72. The cover sheet of claim 59, further comprising one or more adhesive elements attached to at least a portion of the second surface of the cover sheet, the adhesive element having a length sufficient to be wrapped around an extremity of a person.
- 73. A kit, comprising:
the tourniquet padding of claim 1; and at least one of:
an adhesive element for securing the edge portions together; an adhesive element having a length sufficient to be wrapped around an extremity of a person; and a tourniquet.
