Claims
- 1. A radio telecommunication apparatus receiving signals from a base station for a receive period over radio channels established by a time division multiple access (TDMA) system and sending signals to the base station for a period other than the receive period over radio channels established by the TDMA system, the apparatus operating during at least two periods including the receive period and the period other than the receive period, the apparatus having a battery whose voltage decreases in response to consumption of the battery, the apparatus comprising:
- detecting means for detecting that the apparatus is currently operating in the receive period or the period other than the receive period of the at least two periods;
- measuring means for measuring the voltage of the battery only when the detecting means detects that the apparatus is currently operating in the receive period of the at least two periods; and
- determining means responsive to the measuring means for determining a remaining energy of the battery in response to the measured voltage.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising informing means responsive to the determining means for informing a user of the remaining energy of the battery.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein the informing means includes displaying means for displaying information corresponding to the remaining energy of the battery.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the determining means includes comparing means responsive to the measuring means for comparing the measured voltage with at least one predetermined criterion, the remaining energy of the battery being determined in response to the result of the comparison.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the battery is a Lithium-ion battery.
- 6. A method of determining a remaining energy of a battery provided in a radio telecommunication apparatus, the apparatus receiving signals from a base station for a receive period over radio channels established by a time division multiple access (TDMA) system and sending signals to the base station for a period other than the receive period over radio channels established by the TDMA system, the apparatus operating during at least two periods including the receive period and the period other than the receive period, the voltage of the battery decreasing in response to consumption of the battery, the method comprising the steps of:
- detecting that the apparatus is currently operating in the receive period or the period other than the receive period of the at least two periods;
- measuring the voltage of the battery only when the detecting step detects that the apparatus is currently operating in the receive period of the at least two periods; and
- determining a remaining energy of the battery in response to the measured voltage.
