Claims
- 1. A transparent resin material consisting of a hydrogenation product of a (co)polymer obtained by subjecting at least one compound represented by general formula (I) or a combination of at least 5% by weight of said compound and 95% by weight or less of other copolymerizable cyclic olefin monomer to metathesis polymerization: ##STR6## wherein A and B are independently hydrogen atoms or C.sub.1-10 hydrocarbon groups, X is a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1-10 hydrocarbon group and Y is a --(CH.sub.2).sub.n COOR.sup.1 group or a --(CH.sub.2).sub.n OCOR.sup.1 group wherein R.sup.1 is a C.sub.1-20 hydrocarbon group and n is 0 or an integer of 1-10, wherein the cyclic olefin monomer is a nonpolar cyclic olefin selected from the group consisting of cyclopentene, cyclooctene, 1,5-cyclooctadiene, 1,5,9-cyclododecatriene bicyclo[2.2.1]-2-heptene, tricyclo[5.2.1.0.sup.2,6 ]-8-decene, tricyclo[5.2.1.0.sup.2,6 ]-3-decene, tricyclo[6.2.1.0.sup.1,8 ]-9-undecene, tricyclo[6.2.1.0.sup.1,8 ]-4-undecene, tetracyclo[4.4.0.1.sup.2,5.1.sup.7,10 ]-3-dodecene, pentacyclo[6.5.1.1.sup.3,6.0.sup.2,7.0.sup.9,13 ]-4-pentadecene, pentacyclo[6.6.1.1.sup.3,6.0.sup.2,7.0.sup.9,14 ]-4-hexadecene and pentacyclo[6.5.1.1.sup.3,6.0.sup.2,7.0.sup.9,13 -11-pentadecene, or is a polar substituent-containing bicyclo[2.2.1]-2-heptene derivative represented by general formula (II): ##STR7## wherein A.sup.1 and B.sup.1 are independently hydrogen atoms or C.sub.1-10 hydrocarbon groups, X.sup.1 represents hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1-10 hydrocarbon group and Y.sup.1 represents a halogen atom, a halogen-substituted C.sub.1-10 hydrocarbon group, --(CH.sub.2).sub.n COOR.sup.1 group, --(CH.sub.2).sub.n OCOR.sup.1 group, --(CH.sub.2).sub.n OR.sup.1 group, --(CH.sub.2).sub.n CN group, --(CH.sub.2).sub.n CONR.sup.2 R.sup.3 group, --(CH.sub.2).sub.n COOZ group, --(CH.sub.2).sub.n OZ group or --(CH.sub.2).sub.n W group wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are independently C.sub.1-10 hydrocarbon groups, Z is a halogen-substituted hydrocarbon group, W is SiR.sup.5.sub.p D.sub.3-p wherein R.sup.5 is a C.sub.1-10 hydrocarbon group, D is a halogen atom, --OCOR.sup.5 group or --OR.sup.5 group wherein R.sup.5 is as defined above, and p is 0 or an integer of 1-3, n is 0 or an integer of 1-10, and X.sup.1 and Y.sup.1 may form together ##STR8## wherein R.sup.4 is a C.sub.1-10 hydrocarbon group.
- 2. The transparent resin material according to claim 1, wherein Y.sup.1 is a --(CH.sub.2).sub.n COOR.sup.1 group or a --(CH.sub.2).sub.n OCOR.sup.1 group wherein R.sup.1 is a C.sub.1-20 hydrocarbon group and n is 0 or an integer of 1-10.
- 3. The transparent resin material according to claim 1, wherein A is H or --CH.sub.3, B is H or --CH.sub.3, X is H and Y is --(CH.sub.2).sub.n COOR.sup.1.
- 4. The transparent resin material according to claim 1, wherein A is H, B is H or --CH.sub.3, X is H and Y is --COOR.sup.1.
- 5. The transparent resin material according to claim 1, wherein A is H, B is H or --CH.sub.3, X is H and Y is --COOCH.sub.3.
- 6. The transparent resin material according to claim 1, wherein the glass transition temperature of the (co)polymer is at least 100.degree. C. and the saturated water absorption of the (co)polymer is 1.8% or less.
- 7. The transparent resin material according to claim 6, wherein the glass transition temperature of the (co)polymer is at least 120.degree. C.
- 8. The transparent resin material according to claim 7, wherein the saturated water absorption is 1.2% or less.
- 9. The transparent resin material according to claim 7, wherein the saturated water absorption of the (co)polymer is 0.8% or less.
- 10. The transparent resin material according to claim 1, wherein at least 95% of the C.dbd.C. unsaturated bonds of the (co)polymer is hydrogenated.
- 11. The transparent resin material according to claim 1, wherein at least 99% of the C.dbd.C. unsaturated bonds of the (co)polymer is hydrogenated.
- 12. The transparent resin material according to claim 1, which has a halogen content of 50 ppm or less.
- 13. The transparent resin material according to claim 1, which has a halogen content of 20 ppm or less.
- 14. The transparent resin material according to claim 1, which has a gel content of 1% by weight or less.
- 15. The transparent resin material according to claim 1, which has a gel content of 0.1% by weight or less.
- 16. The transparent resin material according to claim 1, which has a water content of 300 ppm or less.
- 17. The transparent resin material according to claim 1, which has a water content of 100 ppm or less.
- 18. An optical article obtained from the transparent resin material of claim 1.
