Claims
- 1. A glass ionomer cement system comprising: a silane treated fluoroaluminosilicate glass which is an acid-reactive organofluoroaluminosilicate particulate glass having an ion-containing, siloxy-containing coating; and a polyalkenoic acid, wherein said glass forms a cement when mixed with water and said polyalkenoic acid.
- 2. The glass ionomer cement system of claim 1, wherein said coating is made from a composition containing compounds of the formula R.sub.n Si(OH).sub.4-n wherein R is a non-hydrolyzable polymerizable organic group and n is one to three.
- 3. The glass ionomer cement system of claim 1, further comprising in said coating an additional organic compound, wherein the additional organic compound comprises a functional group selected from the group consisting of acrylates and methacrylates.
- 4. The glass ionomer cement system of claim 1, wherein one day after mixing said glass with said polyalkenoic acid, the cement releases fluoride at a rate greater than a cement having a like glass having a like coating weight of silane treatment.
- 5. The glass ionomer cement system of claim 1, wherein said polyalkenoic acid comprises an ethylenically unsaturated acid copolymer.
- 6. The glass ionomer cement system of claim 5, wherein said cement system further comprises a photoinitiator.
- 7. The glass ionomer cement system of claim 1, wherein said cement system further comprises 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate.
- 8. The glass ionomer cement system of claim 1, wherein said cement system further comprises treated nonreactive filler.
