Claims
- 1. A method for the treatment of a patient suffering from chronic insomnia comprising administering to said patient a compound selected from the group consisting of the pharmaceutically acceptable forms of amitriptyline, trimipramine, trazodone and mixtures thereof in a daily dosage ranging from about 0.5 to about 20 milligrams.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable form of amitriptyline, trazodone and mixtures thereof are the hydrochloride salts thereof and the pharmaceutically acceptable for of trimipramine is the maleate salt.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the dosage of amitriptyline, trimipramine and mixtures thereof is about 10 milligrams or less.
- 4. The method of claim 3 wherein the dosage is about 5 milligrams or less.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is amitriptyline.
- 6. The method of claim 5 wherein the dosage is about 10 milligrams or less.
- 7. The method of claim 5 wherein the dosage is about 5 milligrams or less.
- 8. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is trimipramine.
- 9. The method of claim 8 wherein the dosage is about 10 milligrams or less.
- 10. The method of claim 8 wherein the dosage is about 5 milligrams or less.
- 11. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is trazodone.
- 12. The method of claim 11 wherein the dosage of trazodone ranges from about 5 to about 15 milligrams.
- 13. The method of claim 1 wherein the patient is not suffering from depression.
- 14. The method of claim 1 wherein the patient is suffering from depression.
