Claims
- 1. A pharmaceutical composition for the treatment or prevention of arrhythmias comprising direct inhibitor of a multifunctional Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase in an amount effective in suppressing early afterdepolarizations, delayed afterdepolarizations, or intracellular calcium overload and further comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.
- 2. A pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, wherein said inhibitor is a CaM kinase II inhibitor.
- 3. A pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, comprising from about 3 mg to about 350 mg of said inhibitor.
- 4. A pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, comprising from about 20 mg to about 200 mg of said inhibitor.
- 5. A method for identifying agents useful for the treatment of arrhythmias which comprises exposing the agent to CaM kinase II and determining if the activity of the CaM kinase II is reduced.
- 6. A method of diminishing proarrhythmic effects due to action potential prolongation of an antiarrhythmic drug in a human subject, wherein said method comprises the administration of an effective amount of direct inhibitor of a multifunctional Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase.
- 7. A method of claim 6, wherein said inhibitor is a CaM kinase II inhibitor.
- 8. A method for suppressing early afterdepolarizations, delayed afterdepolarizations, and intracellular calcium overload in a mammal comprising the administration of an effective amount of direct inhibitor of a multifunctional Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase.
- 9. A method of claim 8, wherein said inhibitor is a CaM kinase II inhibitor.
