Claims
- 1. A compound having the formula: ##STR76## wherein: R.sup.1 is hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy;
- R.sup.2 is halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, hydroxy, mono-, di- or tri-halomethyl, trifluoromethoxy, methylthio, nitro, cyano, acetoxy or dimethylamino;
- R.sup.3 is
- i) --SO.sub.2 NR.sup.a R.sup.b wherein R.sup.a and R.sup.b are independently hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl or together form a heterocycle wherein the heterocyclic moiety is morpholinyl, piperidinyl, pyrrolidinyl or piperazinyl;
- ii) --CO.sub.2 R.sup.5 wherein R.sup.5 is an alkyl, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkenyl or alkynyl, a one to six haloalkyl, an alkoxyalkyl, an alkylthioalkyl, a carboxyalkyl, an alkylthioalkyl, a carboxyalkyl, an alkylcarboxyalkyl, a C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 arylcarboxyalkyl, an alkylaminoalkyl or dialkylaminoalkyl, a trialkylsilylalkyl, each of the aforementioned alkyl moieties having from one to eight carbon atoms; a phenyl, a naphthyl, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkylphenyl, a C.sub.7 -C.sub.12 arylalkyl or alkarylalkyl, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 carbocyclyl, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 carbocyclyl, or a heterocyclylalkyl, wherein the heterocyclic moiety is morpholinyl, piperidinyl, pyrrolidinyl, piperazinyl, furanyl, oxiranyl, oxetanyl or tetrahydrofuranyl;
- iii) --(CH.sub.2).sub.n3 --Y--R.sup.d wherein
- n.sup.3 is 0 or 1;
- Y is O, S, SO, SO.sub.2 or NH; and
- R.sup.d is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkenyl C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkynyl, --CH.sub.2 CO.sub.2 R.sup.5, --CO.sub.2 R.sup.5 with the proviso that Y cannot be SO.sub.2, or --COR.sup.a wherein R.sup.5 and R.sup.a are as defined above;
- iv) --G--CO.sub.2 R.sup.5 wherein
- G is --CH.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 -- or --CH.dbd.CH--, and
- R.sup.5 is as defined above;
- v) --CH.dbd.NOR.sup.a wherein R.sup.a is as defined above;
- vi) --CS.sub.2 R.sup.5 wherein R.sup.5 is as defined above;
- vii) --COSR.sup.5 wherein R.sup.5 is as defined above; ##STR77## wherein n is 1or 2,
- R.sup.a and R.sup.b are independently hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl;
- ix) --COR.sup.a wherein R.sup.a is defined above; or ##STR78## R.sup.4 is hydrogen, halo, methyl or mono-, di- or tri-halomethyl; R is ##STR79## wherein Y.sup.1 is O, S, NH or NR.sup.a wherein R.sup.a is as defined above; ##STR80## wherein R.sup.18 is linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl or alkoxyalkyl wherein the alkyl groups are C.sub.1 -C.sub.6, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 cycloalkyl or mono-, di- or tri-halo C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl;
- Y.sup.3 is O or S; and
- R.sup.a is as defined above; or
- iii) R.sup.z --NH-- wherein R.sup.z is ##STR81## wherein R.sup.a and R.sup.b are independently hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl; and
- Z.sup.1 is O or S;
- b) cyano; ##STR82## wherein Y.sub.1 is as defined above; or ##STR83## wherein Z.sup.2 is S, O, NH, NR.sup.a or NC.tbd.N;
- wherein R.sup.a is as defined above; and
- R.sup.A is ##STR84## wherein R.sup.7, R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 are independently hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, or R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 together with the N form a C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 heterocyclic ring; ##STR85## wherein R.sup.7, R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 are independently hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, or R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 together with the carbon atom form a C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 carbocyclic ring;
- 3) a) fully unsaturated, partially or fully reduced or substituted oxathiinyl; furanyl; dithiinyl; dioxinyl; thienyl; thiazolyl; oxazolyl; isoxazolyl; thiadiazolyl; pyrazolyl; pyrrolyl; pyranyl; oxathiazinyl; oxadiazolyl; or indolyl;
- b) substituted or unsubstituted, linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl; C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkenyl; C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkynyl; C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 mono- or di-alkylamino; C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl; C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl; C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 cycloalkenyl unsubstituted or substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl; or C.sub.7 -C.sub.8 phenylalkyl; or
- c) aryl, C.sup.7 -C.sup.10 aralkyl or aryloxyalkyl or C.sub.3-C.sub.8 cycloalkylaryloxy wherein the aryl moiety of this group is naphthyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted by one or more halo, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, carboxyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkylthio, phenyl, nitro, amino, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkylcarboxylamino, hydroxyl, acetyl, acetyloxy, phenoxy; C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxycarbonyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkylcarbonyl;

- 3. A compound having the formula: ##STR98## wherein: R.sup.1 is hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy;

- R.sup.2 is a chloro, a fluoro or a methyl group;
- R.sup.3 is COOR.sub.5 wherein R.sub.5 is an alkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms;
- R.sup.4 is hydrogen; and
- R.sup.6 is a methyl, ethyl or propyl group.
- 9. A compound as recited in claim 2 having the formula: ##STR115## wherein Z is S; R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 are independently a hydrogen or a methyl; R.sup.18 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl; and

- R.sup.3 is COOR.sup.5 in which R.sup.5 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl.

- R.sup.14 is hydrogen; a halogen; a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy; a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 haloalkyl; a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylthio; an amino; a hydroxyl; an acetyl; an acetyloxy; or acetylamino.
- 12. A compound as recited in claim 11 wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen or fluoro; R.sup.10, R.sup.11, R.sup.12, and R.sup.13 are hydrogen; R.sup.14 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, a chloro, an iodo, an amino, a bromo, a fluoro, a methylthio, a methoxy, or a hydroxyl.

- R.sup.15 is a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkyl; a C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkenyl or alkynyl; a C.sub.7 -C.sub.8 phenylalkyl or phenoxyalkyl; a C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxy; a C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkenyloxy or alkynyloxy; phenoxy; C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl; C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl; C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkenyl unsubstituted or substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl; C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 cycloalkoxy or cycloalkylalkyloxy; cycloalkylphenyloxy or alkylamino.
- 17. A compound as recited in claim 16 wherein R.sup.15 is C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl.
- 18. A compound as recited in claim 17 wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.4 are hydrogen and R.sup.3 is COOR.sup.5.
- 19. A compound as recited in claim 3 having the formula ##STR119## wherein Z is S or O; and
- R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are as recited in claim 3.
- 20. A compound as recited in claim 19 wherein
- R.sup.1 and R.sup.4 are hydrogen;
- R.sup.2 is a chloro; and
- R.sup.3 is a C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkoxycarbonyl.
