Claims
- 1. A method for making an image comprising image-wise heating a dye donor element comprising on a support a dye layer, said dye layer containing a dye according to formula (I): ##STR40## wherein A is the residue of a diazotisable heteroaromatic amine, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently represent hydrogen, an alkyl group, a substituted alkyl group, an alkenyl group, a substituted alkenyl group, an aryl group, a substituted aryl group, a cycloalkyl group, a substituted cycloalkyl group, an aralkyl group, or R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 represent the atoms necessary to complete a ring system or a substituted ring system whilst in face to face relationship with an image receiving material.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 wherein A is selected from the group consisting of thiazolyl, benzothiazolyl, isothiazolyl, benzoisothiasolyl, thienyl, pyridinyl, imidazolyl, benzimidazolyl, pyrazolyl, oxazolyl, thiadiazolyl, triazolyl, quinolyl, isoquinolyl, pyridoisothazolyl, benzoxazolyl, isoxazolyl, bensoisoxazolyl, pyrrolyl, and isothiadiazolyl.
- 3. A method according to claim 1 wherein R.sup.1 or R.sup.2 represents a phenyl group.
- 4. A method according to claim 1 wherein said dye corresponds to the following formula (II): ##STR41## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 have the same meaning as defined in claim 1;
- R.sup.3 represents hydrogen, CN or R.sup.5 --C.dbd.B
- R.sup.4 represents hydrogen, halogen, CN, an alkyl or aryl group, or Z--R.sup.6 ; Z represents O, S or SO.sub.2 ; or R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 together represent the atoms necessary for completing an alicyclic, aromatic or heteroaromatic ring;
- B represents O, N--R.sup.7, CR.sup.8 R.sup.9,
- R.sup.5 represents hydrogen, an alkyl, an aryl, an electron withdrawing group, an aryloxy group, an alkoxy group, an alkylthio group, an amino group or R.sup.5 and R.sup.8, R.sup.9 or R.sup.7 together represent the necessary atoms for completing a ring system,
- R.sup.6 represents hydrogen, an alkyl, an aryl, a cycloalkyl, CN;
- R.sup.7 represnts H, CN, NR.sup.10 R.sup.11, OR.sup.10, OCOR.sup.10, OCO.sub.2 R.sup.10, OCONR.sup.10 R.sup.11, OSO.sub.2 R.sup.10, OP(O)(OR.sup.10)(OR.sup.11), an alkyl, an aryl, a cycloalkyl, a heterocyclic ring;
- R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 independently represent an electron withdrawing group, a heterocyclic ring or R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 together represent the necessary atoms for completing a ring system;
- R.sup.10 and R.sup.11 independently represent hydrogen, an alkyl, an aryl, a cycloalkyl, a heterocyclic ring, or R.sup.10 and R.sup.11 together represent the atoms necessary for completing a heterocyclic nucleus or a substituted heterocyclic nucleus.
- 5. A method according to claim 1 wherein said dye corresponds to the following formula (III): ##STR42## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 have the same meaning as defined in claim 1 and
- R.sup.12 represents H or an electron withdrawing group
- R.sup.13 represents N, halogen, an alkoxy group, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an acylamido group, CN, an alkylthio group, an arylthio group, CO.sub.2 R.sup.10, CONR.sup.10 R.sup.11, SO.sub.2 R.sup.10, SO.sub.3 R.sup.10, SO.sub.2 NR.sup.10 R.sup.11, a heterocyclic group, a cycloalkoxy group, an aryloxy group;
- R.sup.14 represents H, CN, alkyl, halogen NO.sub.2, SO.sub.2 R.sup.15, SO.sub.3 R.sup.15 or
- R.sup.5 --C.dbd.B
- B represents O, N--R.sup.7, CR.sup.8 R.sup.9,
- R.sup.7 represents H, CN, NR.sup.a R.sup.b, OR.sup.a, OCOR.sup.a, OCO.sub.2 R.sup.a, OCONR.sup.a R.sup.b, OSO.sub.2 R.sup.a, OP(O)(OR.sup.a)(OR.sup.b), an alkyl, an aryl, a cycloalkyl, a heterocyclic ring;
- R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 independently represent an electron withdrawing group or a heterocyclic ring or R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 together represent the necessary atoms for completing a ring system
- R.sup.12 and R.sup.13 or R.sup.13 and R.sup.14 may together represent the necessary atoms for completing a ring system including fused-on ring systems;
- R.sup.10, R.sup.a, R.sup.b, R.sup.11 independently represent hydrogen, an alkyl, an aryl, a cycloalkyl, a heterocyclic ring, or R.sup.10 and R.sup.11 or R.sup.a and R.sup.b together represent the atoms necessary for completing a heterocyclic nucleus or a substituted heterocyclic nucleus;
- R.sup.5 represents hydrogen, an alkyl, an aryl, an electron withdrawing group, an aryloxy group, an alkoxy group, an alkylthio group, an amino group or R.sup.5 and R.sup.8, R.sup.9 or R.sup.7 together represent the necessary atoms for completing a ring system;
- R.sup.15 represents hydrogen, an alkyl, an aryl, a cycloalkyl, a heterocyclic ring.
- 6. A method according to claim 1 wherein said dye corresponds to the following formula (IV): ##STR43## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are as defined in claim 4 and R.sup.16 represents hydrogen, an alkyl, an aryl, a cycloalkyl, a heterocyclic ring;
- R.sup.3 and R.sup.16 together represent the necessary atoms for completing a substituted or unsubstituted ring system, including fused-on ring systems.
