Abstract
Described is a truck toolbox-bed cover interface constructed to seals the cargo area of a vehicle between a truck bed cover and a storage container, where the truck toolbox-bed cover interface does not obstruct access to the handles on the back side of a storage container. Some implementations can include a toolbox integrated with a truck toolbox-bed cover interface, a bedcover integrated with a truck toolbox-bed cover interface, and a complete integrated assembly including a toolbox, a bedcover, and a truck toolbox-bed cover interface. Some implementations can include a toolbox with a cooler rail or a tactical rail.
Description
FIELD

Some implementations relate generally to accessories for a truck with toolbox and a bed cover, and, more particularly, to a truck toolbox-bed cover interface that provides a drain for rainwater and does not prohibit access to toolbox handles while the cover is in the closed position.

BACKGROUND

Truck bed covers are used to cover the cargo area of a vehicle such as the cargo box of a pick-up truck. A typical truck bed cover includes a waterproof material, and a frame support which extends along the perimeter of the top of the cargo box. The material is attached to the frame support via a quick release types of fasteners (e.g., snaps, magnets, Velcro, etc.) and can be removed to allow access to the cargo area. The frame support includes a set of rails attached to the top of the side walls and front and back walls of the cargo box. Often a storage container (or toolbox) is mounted in the front of the cargo box of the truck and extends across the width of the cargo box. This can make it difficult to fasten the front rail of the frame support against the back end of the storage container to form a watertight seal keeping the cargo box dry.

In some cases, an angled bracket is placed between the storage container and the front rail of the frame support, such that the front rail overlaps the horizontal portion of the bracket. However, sometimes the handles to open the storage container are located along the back edge and the angled bracket can obstruct access to the handles on the storage container. Therefore, there is a need to provide a device that seals the cargo area of a vehicle between a truck bed cover and storage container that also does not obstruct access to the handles on the back side of the storage container.

Embodiments were conceived in light of the above-mentioned problems and limitations, among other things. The background description provided herein is for the purpose of generally presenting the context of the disclosure. Work of the presently named inventor(s), to the extent it is described in this background section, as well as aspects of the description that may not otherwise qualify as prior art at the time of filing, are neither expressly nor impliedly admitted as prior art against the present disclosure.

FIG. 10 is a diagram of an example truck toolbox 1002 with a tactical rail 1004 in accordance with some implementations. The tactical rail 1004 provides versatility for the tactical rail 1004 as a mounting system. The tactical rail 1004 is configured to secure items to the vehicle, bed, and even just to the top of the tool box lid.

FIG. 11 is a diagram of an example truck toolbox 1102 with an integrated truck toolbox-bed cover interface 1104 in accordance with some implementations.

FIG. 12 is a diagram of an example truck toolbox 1202 with an integrated retractable bed cover 1208 and truck toolbox-bed cover interface 1204 in accordance with some implementations. The retractable bed cover 1208 is guided by rails 1210 and retracts into a cover retaining section 1206.

FIG. 13 is a diagram of an example truck toolbox 1302 with an integrated hard folding bed cover 1304 and truck toolbox-bed cover interface 1306 in accordance with some implementations.

FIGS. 14A-14C are diagrams of an example retractable truck bed cover 1408 with an integrated toolbox 1404 in accordance with some implementations. The retractable truck bed cover 1408 is guided by rails 1406 and retracts to reveal an open top of the integrated toolbox 1404 (as shown in the top view of FIG. 14A). The retractable cover includes a cover stop 1402 that prevents the cover from retracting past a given point. The retractable truck bed cover 1408 retracts into a cover retaining section 1410. When the retractable truck bed cover 1408 is extended to cover the truck bed, the retractable truck bed cover 1408 also cover the integrated toolbox. 1404. Some implementations provide a configuration in which minimal space is needed to house the canisters for holding retracted bed covers. For example, the configuration shown in FIG. 14A-14C provides an ability to lock at multiple positions on the rail so it can be a full bedcover (e.g., a first position) or just a lid for its own toolbox (e.g., a second position) ensuring the use of the bed as if it were just a toolbox alone.

Some implementations can be configured to work with various types of truck bed covers including, but not limited to, soft roll-up covers, hard roll-up covers, soft folding covers, hard folding covers (e.g., tri-fold covers), retractable covers, and one-piece solid covers.

While some example implementations have been described in terms of a general embodiment with several specific example modifications, it is recognized that other modifications, implementations, and variations of the embodiments described above are within the spirit and scope of the disclosed subject matter. Applicants intend to embrace any and all such modifications, variations, embodiments, and implementations.
