Claims
- 1. A tube unit comprising a plurality of layers laminated together so as to form between the layers a plurality of hollow tubes disposed side by side, the tube unit having between the hollow tubes connecting pieces joining the tube unit together, whereby the tubes are liquid-tight and gas-permeable.
- 2. The tube unit of claim 1, wherein the tubes have an inner diameter of 0.1 to 2 mm.
- 3. The tube unit of claim 1 wherein at least one of the laminated layers comprises an oriented, microporous PTFE membrane.
- 4. The tube unit of claim 3 wherein one or more of the laminated layers comprises a material other than a PTFE membrane.
- 5. The tube unit of claim 3 wherein:
- multiple PTFE membrane layers are provided; and
- the membrane layers have differing porosities.
- 6. The tube unit of claim 5 wherein an outer membrane is included having large pores with a pore diameter of 0.1-10 .mu.m and an inner membrane is included having small pores with a pore diameter of 0.01 to 0.1 .mu.m.
- 7. The tube unit of claim 1 wherein the connecting pieces have open perforations.
- 8. The tube unit of claims 1 wherein the tubes include a gas-selective coating.
- 9. The tube unit of claim 1 wherein the material forming the tube includes a fill of inorganic and organic substances.
- 10. The tube unit of claim 1 wherein the tubes unit comprises a membrane module for mass transfer between two fluids.
- 11. The tube unit of claim 10 wherein the tube unit is wound in a spiral in the form of an endless band.
- 12. The tube unit of claim 10, wherein the tubes are folded together.
- 13. The tube unit of claim 10, wherein the tubes comprise individual band segments arranged in parallel and at a distance from each other.
- 14. The tube unit of claim 1 wherein the tube unit comprises a modular form to supply gases to a body of liquid.
- 15. The tube unit of claim 1 wherein the tube unit comprises a modular form for use in a reactor.
- 16. The tube unit of claim 1 wherein the tube unit is incorporated into an article of clothing to improve vapor permeability.
- 17. A tube unit comprising a plurality of layers of expanded PTFE membrane laminated together so as to form between the layers a plurality of hollow tubes disposed side by side, the tube unit having between the hollow tubes connecting pieces joining the tube unit together, whereby the tubes further include a gas-selective coating, and whereby when the unit contacts two fluids so that one of the fluids is inside the plurality of hollow tubes and the other of the two fluids is outside the plurality of hollow tubes, mass transfer can occur between the fluids without the fluids mixing.
