Claims
- 1. A method for controlling fluid flow through a fluid flow line comprising the steps of:regulating at least one orifice valve of said fluid flow line, said at least one orifice valve being located upstream from a control valve; measuring fluid flow properties in said fluid flow line downstream from said at least one orifice valve but in advance of said control valve; providing, to a controller, at least one input signal responsive to said measured fluid flow properties and at least one orifice valve signal for operating said at least one orifice valve; and generating an output signal from said controller for selectively opening and closing said control valve to vary said fluid flow in the flow line, said output signal being generated by said controller in response to said at least one input signal and said at least one orifice valve signal.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 wherein said fluid flow properties include temperature and pressure of said fluid flow.
- 3. A method according to claim 1 further comprising the step of tuning said output signal from said controller.
- 4. A method according to claim 3 wherein said controller includes a computer, whereby said output signal is tunable by an operator.
- 5. A method according to claim 4 wherein said tuning step includes tuning output magnitude between 0 and 100 percent.
- 6. A method according to claim 4 wherein said tuning step includes tuning a decay time constant.
- 7. A method according to claim 6 wherein said tuning step includes tuning a decay time constant between 5 and 10 seconds.
- 8. A method according to claim 1 wherein said controller is a PID controller and said generating step includes a feedforward feature for generating said output signal.
- 9. A method according to claim 8 wherein said providing step includes providing multiple input signals to said controller.
- 10. A method according to claim 9 further comprising multiple orifice valves fluidly connected to said back-pressure valve, wherein said control valve is a back-pressure valve.
- 11. A method according to claim 10 wherein said generating step includes generating a tunable output signal from said controller in response to any one of said multiple input signals.
