Claims
- 1. A stackable turntable for holding a plurality of containers;
- said turntable having a base with a bottom wall;
- a first hollow tubular post secured to and extending above said base, a first opening in said bottom wall of said base, said first opening being aligned with the hollow portion of said tubular post;
- a platform rotatably mounted on said base, said first post having an upper end and a lower end secured to said base, said upper end of said post being shaped to fit through a second opening in a second bottom wall of a second base and into a second hollow tubular post of another turntable of like construction,
- and a fastening mechanism for releasably fixing said upper end of said first post in said second tubular post,
- wherein said first post can be removably fitted and fixed in said second post of said other turntable for stacking said turntables together.
- 2. A device as in claim 1, including a carrying handle removably attached to said upper end of said first post.
- 3. A device as in claim 1 in which said first and second tubular posts are tapered to ease the insertion and removal of one post into and out of the other, the dimensions of said posts producing an interference fit.
- 4. A device as in claim 1 wherein each of said posts has at least one lock slot adjacent said lower end, and has at least one lock tab adjacent said upper end; and said tab and slot being positioned and dimensioned so that said tab locks in said slot when said upper end of said first post is inserted into said lower end of said second post and rotated.
- 5. A device as in claim 1 in which said first post has an upper end, and including a tubular extension secured to said first post at said upper end.
- 6. A device as in claim 5 including a disc attached to said post and forming a top wall for said turntable, said extension having a plurality of tabs, said disc having a plurality of lock slots receiving said tabs to lock said extension to said disc.
- 7. A device as in claim 6, including a handle with lock tabs, said disc having mating receptacles for lockably receiving said tabs.
- 8. A turntable device comprising:
- a base structure having a flat base member, an upwardly-extending central post secured to said base structure, and a platform rotatably mounted on said base structure, said platform being adapted to support a plurality of containers, and an extension member and means for removably attaching said extension member to an upper end of said post, said extension member having a means for mounting comprising a wall with mounting holes for receiving fasteners for attaching said turntable to an underside of an overhanging surface to suspend said turntable under said overhanging surface, in which said base structure has a first cavity in its bottom and said extension member is shaped and dimensioned to fit into a second cavity in another turntable device and has means to attach said turntables together in vertical tandem, said second cavity having the same shape and dimensions as said first cavity, such that said extension member selectively mounts said turntable device to the underside of the overhanging surface or fixes the turntable device to said another turntable device.
- 9. A turntable device comprising:
- a base structure having a flat base member, an upwardly-extending central post secured to said base structure, said central post having an upper end, and a platform rotatably mounted on said base structure, said platform being adapted to support a plurality of containers, and a hanging support member at said upper end of said post for attaching said turntable to an underside of an overhanging surface to suspend said turntable under said overhanging surface, in which said base structure has a first cavity in its bottom and said hanging support member is shaped and dimensioned to fit into a second cavity in another turntable to attach said turntables together in vertical tandem, said second cavity having the same shape and dimensions as said first cavity in which said hanging support member has lock tabs and said post has a top member with lock slots shaped to receive said lock tabs and lock said hanging support member and said top member together upon insertion of said tabs into said slots and rotation of said top member and said support member relative to one another.
- 10. A device as in claim 9 in which said base structure has lock slots and said hanging support member has further lock tabs fitting into said slots to lock two turntables together upon rotation of said hanging support member relative to the base structure of said other turntable.
- 11. A turntable comprising a base structure having a base member with a flat bottom, an upwardly-extending central post secured to said base member, and a platform rotatably mounted on said base structure, said platform being adapted to support a plurality of containers, a locking structure for rotatably holding said platform and said base structure together, said locking structure comprising at least one resilient tab extending outwardly in a generally radial direction from said post adjacent but spaced from said base member, said platform having an upper surface encircling said post and dimensioned to depress said tab when fitted over said post, and to release said tab when seated against said base member.
- 12. A turntable as in claim 11 in which said base member and said post comprise a single molded structure, and including a further platform secured to and extending outwardly from the top of said post.
- 13. A device as in claim 12 in which said further platform has locking means for quickly attaching and removing selectively either a handle or a central hanging support.
- 14. A device as in claim 11 including an adjustable measuring device secured to said turntable, each of said containers having a dispensing opening and said measuring device being dimensioned so as to fit into each of said containers through said opening.
- 15. A device as in claim 14, including a handle attached to said post, said handle having a releasable holding device for holding said adjustable measuring device.
- 16. A turntable kit comprising a turntable having an upper distal end and a lower end, a base structure at said lower end, said base structure having a bottom wall with an opening in said bottom wall,
- a hollow tubular post with an interior wall and an upper end extending to a position adjacent said upper distal end of said turntable, and a lower end secured to said base structure with said interior wall of said tubular post aligned with said opening in said bottom wall,
- a platform rotatably mounted on said base to rotate around said hollow post, and
- an extension removably attachable to said upper end of said post, said extension having dimensions smaller than said turntable and having an end with smaller dimensions than those of the opening to fit through the opening in the bottom wall of the base structure of, and into the hollow tubular post of, a second turntable of the same construction as the first-named turntable, and a fastening mechanism for fixing said extension into said hollow tubular post of said second turntable, said fastening mechanism forming a part of at least one of said extension and said hollow tubular post of said second turntable.
- 17. A kit as in claim 16, in which said extension has a wall with a flat upper surface and attachment openings for receiving fasteners to fasten said extension to the underside of a shelf, whereby said extension can be used either for hanging said turntable from underneath a shelf, or for stacking and securing two turntables together.
- 18. A kit as in claim 17 in which each of said turntables has an upper wall secured to said post adjacent said upper end of said post, said fastening mechanism comprising rotary engagement surfaces in said upper wall and said extension.
- 19. A kit as in claim 17 in which said extension forms a cap with a tubular body and a closed end, said wall comprising said closed end.
- 20. A kit as in claim 16 including a handle structure with an attachment structure for removably attaching it to said post in place of said extension.
- 21. A method of suspending from a support surface a turntable having a base, a hollow tubular post having an upper end and a lower end secured to said base, said base having an opening, said opening being aligned with the hollow portion of said tubular post,
- and a platform rotatably mounted on said base, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing a removably mounted extension on the upper end of said post, said extension being shaped and dimensioned to fit into the opening in the base of a second turntable of like construction and having means to removably fix said turntables together in vertical tandem, said extension having a structural member with mounting holes in it,
- (b) securing said extension to the underside of a support surface by the use of said mounting holes, and
- (c) removably fixing said extension to said upper end of said post.
- 22. A method as in claim 21 in which said extension and said upper end of said post have rotary attachment surfaces, and said attaching step comprises engaging said attachment surfaces and rotating said post and said extension relative to one another.
- 23. A method of using a turntable having a base, a post having a distal upper end and a lower end secured to said base,
- said post having a hollow tubular portion adjacent said base, said base having an opening aligned with said hollow portion,
- and a platform rotatably mounted on said base, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing a tubular extension for the upper end of said post, said extension being smaller than said turntable, said extension being shaped and dimensioned to fit into the hollow tubular portion of the post of another turntable of the same construction as the first-named turntable;
- (b) attaching said extension to said distal upper end of said post;
- (c) inserting said extension into the hollow tubular portion of the post of said another turntable through the opening in the base of said another turntable, and;
- (d) fixing said extension to said post of said another turntable.
- 24. A method of using a turntable having a base, a post having an upper end and a lower end secured to said base, said post having a hollow tubular portion adjacent said base, said base having an opening aligned with said hollow portion, and a platform rotatably mounted on said base, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing an extension for the upper end of said post, said extension being sized and shaped to fit into the hollow portion of a post of another turntable of like construction and having apertures for use in hanging said turntable from an underside of an overhanging surface;
- (b) releasably securing said extension to said upper end of said post;
- (c) selecting between the use of said extension in hanging said turntable or attaching two of said turntables together, and
- (d) either inserting and releasably fixing said extension in the hollow tubular portion of a post of a second turntable like the first-named turntable to attach said first and second turntables together in vertical tandem, or fastening said extension to said underside of said overhanging surface to hang said turntable from said underside of said overhanging surface.
