Abstract
The invention is a necktie of the bow type of novel two-piece construction. Piece A has a bow-shape at one end and an attached ring structure at the other end. Piece B also has a bow shape at one end and is adapted with a fabric hook and loop fastener at the other end. The necktie is assembled and adjusted by passing Piece B through the ring structure attached to Piece A, folding Piece B back upon itself, and securing the fabric hook and loop fastener. The 2-piece bowtie may be adjusted throughout any stage of knot tying and after the tying is completed, may be adjusted while being worn without requiring removal of the entire bowtie, and may be removed from being worn and placed back on while maintaining a formed bow knot.
Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention offers an innovative construction of neckties of the bow type with an improved adjustable neckband. This neckband resolves a common problem experienced by self-tie bow tie wearers—namely the lack of accurate sizing and adjustability to ensure a comfortable and presentable fit.


BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

This invention relates to adjustable and interchangeable hand tied neckties of the bow type, and to the method of making the same. The general objective is to provide an improved adjustable, self-tie bow necktie. This invention is comprised to two (2) separate pieces that are combined to make one self-tie bow tie (see “Piece A” and “Piece B” in the drawings below). The novelty of this invention is its size-adjustability at any stage of the tying process and in its aftermath. Specifically, the tie can be adjusted while worn without requiring that the neck tie be untied or removed in the readjustment process. This bow tie can also be removed once a knot is tied without untying the entire necktie. The neckband remains comfortably hidden beneath the collar while maintaining presentable fit while worn. Further, the two-piece design allows for interchangeability with other bows of the this type: the individual pieces of this invention can be customized to any ornamental design appearance, can be separated from one another, and can be used interchangeably with other pieces of the same functional design regardless of their ornamental design.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Referring now in detail to the various views of the drawings:



FIG. 1 depicts the front and rear sides of Piece A of this invention in proper relative conformation. Both sides of Piece A are composed of fabric or textile material with an affixed metal or plastic ring mechanism. The front side of Piece A is 10. The rear side of Piece A is 12. The ring mechanism is 11. Parts 10 and 12 are placed back to back, stitched together along the edges, and turned inside out to produce the bow appearance common to this tie type (a technique known by those skilled in the art). The non-bow shaped ends of 10 and 12 are placed through the opening of 11 then folded back and sewn upon themselves.



FIG. 1.A is an exploded view, depicting 10 and 12 of Piece A after they have been placed through the opening of 11 and sewn upon themselves to secure 11 to 10 and 12.



FIG. 2 depicts the front and rear sides of Piece B of this invention in proper relative conformation. Both sides of Piece B of this invention are composed of front and back sides of decorative fabric or textile material, including the front (14), the rear (16), a male engaging fabric hook mechanism (13), and a female receiving fabric loop mechanism (15). Parts 14 and 16 of Piece B are longer in length than 10 and 12 of Piece A in FIG. 1. Parts 14 and 16 are placed back to back, stitched together along the edges and turned inside out (a technique known by those skilled in the art). Parts 13 and 15 are externally placed upon 16 and stitched to 14 and 16.



FIG. 2.A is an exploded view of Piece B of this invention depicting the assembly of 13 to 16 and 14. Part 13 is slightly narrower in width than 16 and is externally stitched to the previously combined 14 and 16.



FIG. 2.B is an exploded view of Piece B of this invention depicting the assembly of 15 to 16 and 14. Part 15 is slightly narrower in width than 16 and is externally stitched to the previously combined 14 and 16.



FIG. 3 is a perspective view of Piece A and Piece B of this invention. The non-bow shaped end of Piece B is inserted through 11 of Piece A. This Figure illustrates the first step of neckband adjustment and the combination of Piece A and Piece B to form one self-tie bow tie. This is the manner in which various ornamental designs of this invention may be combined with one another interchangeably.



FIG. 4 is a slight rear profile perspective view of Piece A and B of this invention. Piece B is folded back upon itself after being inserted through 11 of Piece A (as illustrated in FIG. 3), and 13 and 15 are pressed together to engage the fabric hook and loop fastener, forming the adjustable neckband and one complete self-tie bowtie. This Figure illustrates the final step of neckband adjustment and the ready-to-be-tied self-tie necktie.


By repeating the steps of adjustment illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4, the length of the neckband may be adjusted at any stage of sizing or knot tying and while being worn. [Instructions are not provided on the bow knot tying process as it is a technique known to those skilled in the art and is not relevant to this invention.]



FIG. 5 is a rear perspective view of this invention in its worn state, depicting the invention after a bow knot has been formed.



FIG. 6 is a rear perspective view of this invention depicting the mechanism for adjustment of the neckband to the proper size and tightness; this adjustment takes place after a bow knot has been formed while the invention is worn and while the formed bow knot is maintained. In FIG. 6, the fabric hook and loop fastener is disengaged and Piece B is passed through 11 of Piece A to adjust the tightness of the neckband while being worn. This invention may be completely removed while maintaining the formed bow knot by completely passing Piece B through 11 of Piece A in reverse to conveniently remove the invention from the neck without untying the bow knot. This feature provides for both easy removal and replacement without requiring that the bowknot be untied; similarly, it allows for size adjustment without complete removal from the neck and without untying of the bow.

  • 1. A two piece, adjustable bow tie comprising the following in combination: a. A first tie piece having a first and second end, said first end being shaped in the form of a bow, said second end comprising a narrow band section adapted with loop hardware; andb. A second tie piece having a first and second end, said first end being shaped in the form of a bow, said second end comprising a narrow band section adapted with male engaging, and female receiving means.
  • 2. The bow tie of claim 1 wherein said first piece contains loop hardware external to itself.
  • 3. The bowtie of claim 1 wherein said loop hardware is a ring structure.
  • 4. The bow tie of claim 1 wherein said second tie piece is longer than said first tie piece.
  • 5. The bow tie of claim 1 wherein said second piece contains male engaging and female receiving means externally adjacent to itself.
  • 6. The bow tie of claim 1 wherein said male engaging and female receiving means of said second piece is a fabric hook and loop fastener.
  • 7. The bowtie of claim 1 wherein said second piece is passed through the ring structure of said first piece and said second piece is folded back upon itself to engage said fabric hook and the loop fastener of said second piece thereby completing assembly.
  • 8. The bowtie of claim 1 wherein said necktie (completely assembled) is adjustable throughout all stages of knot tying.
  • 9. The bowtie of claim 1 wherein said necktie, once tied and worn, may be further adjusted for fit without requiring removal.
  • 10. The bowtie of claim 1 wherein said necktie, once tied and worn, may be removed while maintaining the formed knot.
  • 11. The bowtie of claim 1 wherein said necktie with formed knot may be placed back onto the neck without requiring that the necktie be retied.
