Abstract
An interchangeable cover for a fill layer is disclosed herein. The interchangeable cover includes two separate pieces of fabric—particularly, a top sheet and a bottom sheet−that are attachable together via a plurality of fasteners along edges thereof, to enclose a fill layer (such as a duvet or weighted blanket) therein. In some versions, the plurality of fasteners includes magnets. The interchangeable cover considerably speeds up and simplifies the process of changing duvet covers, especially for those with mobility issues or other disabilities. The two-piece interchangeable cover also enables users to interchange one of the sheets without interchanging the other sheet, for decorative and/or cleaning purposes.
Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The following includes information that may be useful in understanding the present disclosure. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art nor material to the presently described or claimed inventions, nor that any publication or document that is specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.

TECHNICAL FIELD

The present invention relates generally to the field of bed covers of existing art and more specifically relates to a two-piece interchangeable cover for a fill layer.

RELATED ART

A duvet cover is a protective fabric casing that fits over a duvet, which is a soft blanket-like insert that is typically filled with down, feathers, or synthetic fibers. The duvet cover is designed to keep the duvet clean, preserve its insulation and shape, and provide a decorative element to the bedding ensemble. However, the process of changing duvet covers can be challenging for most people, especially those with mobility issues, and is generally not an enjoyable experience. As a result, duvet covers tend to be washed less frequently than they should. Additionally, since many individuals enjoy changing interior decor and color schemes on a regular basis, the current method of changing duvet covers requires the individual to remove and replace the entire cover, which can be time-consuming, inconvenient and wasteful. As such, a suitable solution is desired.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known bed cover art, the present disclosure provides a novel two-piece interchangeable cover. The general purpose of the present disclosure, which will be described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide an interchangeable cover for a fill layer (such as a duvet or weighted blanket), consisting of two separable pieces that can be interchanged for washing, decoration, etc.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

As discussed above, embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a two-piece interchangeable cover. Generally, the two-piece interchangeable cover may include two separate pieces of fabric that are configured to attach together and encase a fill layer, such as a duvet or weighted blanket, therein. For example, the two separate pieces may be attached together via magnets along edges thereof. The two-piece interchangeable cover may allow for easy decorative changes and frequent washing and may mitigate frustrations when putting the cover on, particularly for those with mobility issues or other disabilities.

Referring now more specifically to the drawings by numerals of reference, there is shown in FIGS. 1-7, various views of an interchangeable cover for a fill layer (“interchangeable cover” 100). As shown in these figures, the interchangeable cover 100 may include a bottom sheet 110 and a top sheet 130. The bottom sheet 110 and the top sheet 130 may be configured to encase a fill layer 5 such as a duvet, a weighted blanket, or other item such as (but not limited to) a pillow.

The bottom sheet 110 and the top sheet 130 may be separable, as discussed above, so that the top sheet 130 and bottom sheet 110 can be separately interchanged for a variety of reasons. For example, the top sheet 130 may include decorative features and may be interchanged every season, to suit different colors, moods, etc. In another example, the top sheet 130 may need washing more than the bottom sheet 110 due to pets sleeping on the top sheet 130, or the bottom sheet 110 may need washing more due to being in contact with a user more than the top sheet 130.

Further, in some embodiments, the top sheet 130 and the bottom sheet 110 may be made from different materials. For example, the bottom sheet 110 may include a waterproof fabric which may be particularly useful in case of bed wetting accidents. In another example, the top sheet 130 may include a decorative-oriented fabric, such as (but not limited to) satin, whilst the bottom sheet 110 includes a comfort-oriented fabric, such as (but not limited to) microfiber.

Referring now to FIGS. 2-7, there is shown the bottom sheet 110, the top sheet 130 and a fill layer 5 (FIGS. 2-4). Again, whilst the preferred embodiment discussed here and shown in these figures is an interchangeable cover 100 for a duvet or weighted blanket, the interchangeable cover 100 may be used with other items, such as pillows, as discussed above. It is also contemplated that the interchangeable cover 100 may be used with existing fill layers; however, in some embodiments, the interchangeable cover 100 may be provided as an interchangeable system including the fill layer.

As shown in FIGS. 2-5, the bottom sheet 110 may include a first upper edge 111 opposite a first lower edge 112, a first pair of opposing side edges 113, a first bottom side 114 (FIG. 7) opposite a first top side 115 and at least one first fastener 116 attached along each of the first lower edge 112 and the first pair of opposing sides edges 113. In some embodiments, the first top side 115 of the bottom sheet 110 may include a plurality of string ties 122.

The plurality of string ties 122 may be configured to attach the bottom sheet 110 to the fill layer 5. For example, as shown in FIGS. 2-3, each string tie 122 may be attached about a corner of the first top side 115 of the bottom sheet 110; in this embodiment, the fill layer 5 may be a duvet including a plurality corresponding fasteners 6 (such as loops)-one at each corner-and accordingly, each of the plurality of string ties 122 may be tied to one of the plurality of corresponding fasteners 6 to attach the bottom sheet 110 to the duvet. In another example, as shown in FIG. 4, the string ties 122 may be attached about the first upper edge 111, the first lower edge 112, the first pair of opposing side edges 113, and the first bottom side 114; in this embodiment, the fill layer 5 may be a weighted blanket including the plurality of corresponding fasteners 6 around each edge thereof-and accordingly, each of the plurality of string ties 122 may be tied to one of the plurality of corresponding fasteners 6 to attach the bottom sheet 110 to the weighted blanket.

As shown in FIGS. 2-4 and FIG. 6, the top sheet 130 may include a second upper edge 131 opposite a second lower edge 132, a second pair of opposing side edges 133, a second bottom side 134 (FIG. 7) opposite a second top side 135, and at least one second fastener 136 attached along each of the second lower edge 132 and the second pair of opposing sides edges 133. In some embodiments, the top sheet 130 may include a length greater than a length of the bottom sheet 110 such that when the first lower edge 112 and the second lower edge 132 are aligned, the second upper edge 131 is able to folded over the first upper edge 111. As such, the second upper edge 131 may act as a ‘flap’ and may further aid in securing the fill layer 5 in between the top sheet 130 and the bottom sheet 110 and also prevent user contact with the fasteners 116, 136. Further, it is contemplated that the fill layer 5 may be of a slightly smaller size than the top sheet 130 and the bottom sheet 110 (both width and length) so that the fasteners 116, 136 are able to contact each other when encasing the fill layer 5.

The at least one second fastener 136 and the at least one first fastener 116 may be configured to attach the second lower edge 132 of the top sheet 130 to the first lower edge 112 of the bottom sheet 110 and attach the second pair of opposing side edges 133 of the top sheet 130 to the first pair of opposing side edges 113 of the bottom sheet 110, thereby attaching the top sheet 130 to the bottom sheet 110. Further, in some embodiments, the second upper edge 131 of the top sheet 130 may be configured to attach to an upper portion 118 (FIG. 5) of the bottom sheet 110.

As shown in FIG. 3 and FIG. 5, the at least one first fastener 116 may include a first plurality of magnets 117. As particularly referenced in FIG. 5, a portion of the first plurality of magnets 117a may be attached at the upper portion 118 of the bottom sheet 110, another portion the first plurality of magnets 117b may be attached at the first lower edge 112, and another portion of the first plurality of magnets 117c may be attached at each of the first pair of opposing side edges 113. Similarly, as particularly referenced in FIG. 6, the at least one second fastener 136 may include a second plurality of magnets 137, with a portion of the second plurality of magnets 137a attached at the second upper edge 131 of the top sheet 130, another portion of the second plurality of magnets 137b attached at the second lower edge 132, and another portion of the second plurality of magnets 137c attached at each of the second pair of opposing side edges 133.

As such, the portion of the first plurality of magnets 117 a attached to the upper portion 118 of the bottom sheet 110, and the portion of the second plurality of magnets 137a attached to the second upper edge 131 of the top sheet 130, may be configured to attach the second upper edge 131 of the top sheet 130 to the upper portion 118 of the bottom sheet 110 when the second upper edge 131 is folded over the first upper edge 111, as demonstrated in FIG. 7. In some embodiments, the upper portion 118 of the bottom sheet 110 may include a pocket 119, as shown in FIG. 5. The pocket 119 may be attached to the first bottom side 114 (FIG. 7) thereof and configured to contain the portion of the first plurality of magnets 117a. Particularly, in some embodiments, the pocket and the portion of the first plurality of magnets 117a may extend over a width of the bottom sheet 110, between the first pair of opposing sides edges 113. The pocket 119 is shown via broken lines to demonstrated that the pocket 119 is located on the first bottom side 114 (FIG. 7).

In some embodiments, at least some of the first plurality of magnets 117 may be hidden within the first lower edge 112 and the first pair of opposing side edges 113 and at least some of the second plurality of magnets 137 may be hidden within the second lower edge 132 and the second pair of opposing side edges 133. Accordingly, the first plurality of magnets 117 and the second plurality of magnets 137 are shown via broken lines in FIGS. 2-6 to demonstrate that the first plurality of magnets 117 and the second plurality of magnets 137 are hidden/contained within the first lower edge 112 and the first pair of opposing side edges 113; and the second lower edge 132, the second pair of opposing side edges 133 and the second upper edge 131 respectively.

Particularly, as shown in FIG. 5, the first lower edge 112 and the first pair of opposing side edges 113 may each include decorative, reinforced edging defining a first sleeve 121a, 121b for containing at least some of the first plurality of magnets 117; and as shown in FIG. 5, the second lower edge 132 and the second pair of opposing side edges 133 may each include decorative, reinforced edging defining a second sleeve 138a, 138b for containing at least some of the second plurality of magnets 137. The first sleeve 121 and the second sleeve 138 may be formed, in some embodiments, by folding each of the edges (112, 113, 132, 133) over itself and fastening (for example, by sewing) the edge. This may keep the magnets 117, 137 hidden within the sheets 110, 130, and also may provide comfort to the user as the magnets 117, 137 won't directly contact the user.

It should be appreciated however that the fasteners 116, 136 are not limited to magnets. For example, the fasteners 116, 136 may include (but again are not limited to) snap fasteners, hook and loop fasteners (e.g., VELCRO®), buttons, zippers, etc.

Referring now to FIG. 8 showing a flow diagram illustrating a method of using an interchangeable cover for a fill layer (“method” 200), according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In particular, the method 200 may include one or more components or features of the interchangeable cover 100 as described above. As illustrated, the method 200 may include the steps of: step one 201, providing the interchangeable cover as above; step two 202, placing the bottom sheet onto a flat surface (such as a mattress); step three 203, placing the fill layer over the bottom sheet, the fill layer being of a slightly smaller size than the bottom sheet and the top sheet; step four 204, placing the top sheet over the fill layer and the bottom sheet such that the at least one second fastener along each of the second lower edge and the second pair of opposing sides edges aligns with the at least one first fastener along each of the first lower edge and the first pair of opposing sides edges; step five 205, fastening the second lower edge of the top sheet to the first lower edge of the bottom sheet via the at least one second fastener and the at least one first fastener; and step six 206, fastening the second pair of opposing side edges of the top sheet to the first pair of opposing side edges of the bottom sheet via the at least one second fastener and the at least one first fastener; step seven 207, folding the second upper edge of the top sheet over the first upper edge of the bottom sheet; and step eight 208, fastening the second upper edge of the top sheet to the upper portion of the bottom sheet, when the second upper edge is folded over the first upper edge, via the at least one second fastener and the at least one first fastener. Further steps may include step 301, tying each string tie to a corresponding fastener on the fill layer, thereby attaching the fill layer to the bottom sheet.
