Claims
- 1. A disk cartridge, comprising:
- an outer shell having a driving access hole;
- a storage medium rotatably disposed within said outer shell;
- a hub attached to said storage medium proximate an access of rotation of said storage medium and proximate said driving access hole, said hub comprising a top portion and a bottom portion, said top portion having a substantially planar surface to which the medium is attached, said top and bottom portions being formed from a sheet material, and said bottom portion being joined to a side of said top portion opposite from the substantially planar surface so as to form the hub, wherein said hub comprises a cavity formed therein between said top and bottom portions.
- 2. The disk cartridge as recited in claim 1 wherein said top portion has an annular flange having a diameter larger than said driving access hole.
- 3. The disk cartridge as recited in claim 1 wherein said sheet material comprises a ferrous material.
- 4. The disk cartridge as recited in claim 3 wherein said ferrous material comprises stainless steel.
- 5. The disk cartridge as recited in claim 1 wherein said top and bottom portions are joined together via welding.
- 6. The disk cartridge as recited in claim 1 wherein an interior of said hub is hollow.
- 7. The disk cartridge as recited in claim 1 further comprising a retainer coupled to said hub such that said medium is retained between said hub and said retainer.
- 8. The disk cartridge as recited in claim 7 wherein said retainer comprises a ring concentric with the center of said medium and said hub.
- 9. The disk cartridge as recited in claim 1 wherein said storage medium comprises a magnetic medium.
- 10. The disk cartridge as recited in claim 9 wherein said magnetic medium comprises a flexible disk.
- 11. A disk cartridge comprising:
- an outer shell having a driving access hole;
- a disk-shaped storage medium rotatably disposed within said outer shell about said driving access hole;
- a hub comprising a top portion having a planar top surface and a bottom portion, said top and bottom portions being formed from a sheet material, and said bottom portion joined to said top portion on a side opposite the planar top surface to form the hub, said top and bottom portions forming a cavity therebetween, said storage medium being attached to the planar top surface on said top portion and said hub positioned proximate said driving access hole;
- a flange coupled to an outer peripheral edge of said hub and having a diameter larger than said driving access hole.
- 12. The disk cartridge as recited in claim 11 wherein said flange is integrally formed with a portion of said hub.
- 13. The disk cartridge as recited in claim 12 wherein said flange is integrally formed with one of said top portion and said bottom portion.
- 14. The disk cartridge as recited in claim 12 wherein said storage medium comprises a magnetic storage medium.
- 15. The disk cartridge as recited in claim 12 wherein said magnetic storage medium comprises a flexible medium.
- 16. The disk cartridge as recited in claim 13 wherein said sheet material comprises steel.
