Claims
- 1. A seat comprising:a base; at least one seating body, at least one motion mechanism connected between said base and said at least one seating body for providing said at least one of a rocking motion, a vertical, a turning, and a lateral motion, said at least one seating body having a predetermined neutral angle, wherein the neutral angle is the angle with respect to a horizontal axis orthogonal to the earth's gravity vectors that the seating body resides at when no external forces are present on the seating body.
- 2. The seat of claim 1, wherein the neutral angle ranges between approximately negative 40 degrees and positive 30 degrees.
- 3. The seat of claim 1, wherein the amount of vertical motion ranges between approximately 0.1 and 4 inches.
- 4. The seat of claim 1, wherein the seating body can rock through an angle of up to approximately 40 degrees.
- 5. The seat of claim 1, wherein the neutral angle is between approximately 0 and positive 4 degrees, the amount of vertical motion is between approximately 0.10 and 1.5 inches, and the total rocking motion is between approximately 5 and 10 degrees.
- 6. The seat of claim 1, wherein the neutral angle is between approximately 0 and positive 15 degrees, the amount of vertical motion is between approximately 0.25 and 2.0 inches, and the total rocking motion is between approximately 3 and 20 degrees.
- 7. The seat of claim 1, wherein the neutral angle is between approximately 0 and positive 30 degrees, the amount of vertical motion is approximately between 0.5 and 4.0 inches, and the total rocking motion is approximately between 10 and 60 degrees.
- 8. The seat of claim 1, wherein the neutral angle is between approximately 0 and negative 40 degrees, the amount of vertical motion is approximately between 0.1 and 1.5 inches, and the total rocking motion is approximately between 10 and 60 degrees.
- 9. The seat of claim 1, wherein said motion mechanism provides an ischial tuberosities target area, said ischial tuberosities target area defined as the ideal location on the seating body for an occupant to sit, the ischial tuberosities target area extending about 10 inches in the longitudinal direction of the seating body and up to the width of the seating body.
- 10. The seat of claim 1, wherein a predetermined amount of rocking motion and vertical motion are provided in each seating body based on the neutral angle.
- 11. The seat of claim 10, wherein the total rocking angle is greater when the neutral angle, positive or negative, is greater.
- 12. The seat of claim 10, wherein the vertical motion is greater when the neutral angle is positive and greater, and the vertical motion is less when the neutral angle is negative and greater.
- 13. The seat of claim 1, wherein said at least one seating body is covered by a single cushion.
- 14. The seat of claim 13, wherein said at least one seating body includes a plurality of slots to achieve desired flexibility of said at least one seating body.
- 15. The seat of claim 1, wherein said at least one seating body includes at least a first seating body and a second seating body and wherein said first seating body moves independently of said second seating body.
- 16. The seat of claim 15, wherein each of said first and said second seating body is subdivided into at least two sub portions each of said sub portions on each of said first and second seating bodies angularly displaceable with respect to an adjacent sub portion on its respective first and said second seating body.
- 17. The seat of claim 1, and further including an adjustment structure supported by said base, to selectably adjust the force and displacement profile of said at least a first seating body in its movement toward said base.
- 18. The seat of claim 1, wherein the amount of lateral movement of said at least one seating body from a rest position is about one quarter of an inch.
- 19. The seat of claim 1, wherein said base has a lower surface including a plurality of openings and further comprising a detachable foot associated with each one of said plurality of openings, said detachable foot having a first side and a second side and wherein each said detachable foot is orientable in a first position wherein said first side of said detachable foot faces its associated opening for support from said base in a storage position and orientable in a second position wherein said second side of said detachable foot faces its associated opening for support from said base in an extended position.
- 20. A seat for optimally distributing the weight of an occupant's body borne by the ischial tuberosities and posterior over the seat regardless of an occupant's seating position, the seat comprising:a base; a pair of seating assemblies, each seating assembly supported by said base; at least one motion mechanism that supports each of said pair of seating assemblies independently in a force displacement relationship wherein a downward force on one of said pair of seating assemblies produces at least a proportional downward displacement of said one of said pair of seating assemblies; a movement constraining mechanism disposed between each of said pair of seating assemblies and said base for preventing movement of said pair of seating assemblies from interfering with each other while permitting at least one of rocking and vertical displacement of each of said pair of seating assemblies independently.
- 21. The seat of claim 20, wherein said motion mechanism provides an ischial tuberosities target area, said ischial tuberosities target area defined as the ideal location in the seating assembly for an occupant to sit, the ischial tuberosities target area extending about 10 inches in the longitudinal direction of the seating assembly and up to the width of the seating assembly.
- 22. The seat of claim 20, wherein each of said pair of seating assemblies is covered by a single cushion.
- 23. The seat of claim 22, wherein each single cushion of said pair of seating assemblies is convex upwardly shaped to provide additional support to the ischial tuberosities of a user.
- 24. The seat of claim 23, wherein each single cushion of said pair of seating assemblies includes an additional curved padding curved to a greater degree than said convex upwardly shape and extending above said convex upward shape to provide additional support to the ischial tuberosities of a user.
- 25. The seat of claim 20, wherein each of said pair of seating assemblies is convex upwardly to provide additional support to the ischial tuberosities of a user.
- 26. A seat comprising:a base; a motion mechanism supported by said base; a pair of seating members, each seating member supported by said motion mechanism and enabled to move in at least one of a vertical motion and a rocking motion; said motion mechanism supporting said pair of seating members to provide an enlarged ideal sitting area for an occupant's ischial tuberosities.
- 27. The seat as recited in claim 26 and wherein said motion mechanism further comprises a plurality of springs having first ends supported from said support and second ends engaging said pair of seating members.
- 28. The seat as recited in claim 26 and wherein said motion mechanism further comprises a first constraining support having a first end pivotally connected to said base and a second end pivotally connected to each of said pair of seating members.
- 29. The seat as recited in claim 28 and wherein said motion mechanism further comprises a second constraining support having a first end pivotally connected to said base and a second end translatably and pivotally connected to each of said pair of seating members.
- 30. The seat as recited in claim 26 and wherein said motion mechanism further comprises a first constraining support having a first end pivotally connected to said base and a second end translatably and pivotally connected to each of said pair of seating members.
- 31. The seat as recited in claim 26 and wherein said motion mechanism motion assembly further comprises an elastomeric member attached to at least one of said base and one of said pair of seating members.
- 32. The seat as recited in claim 31 and further comprising an adjustment member, attached to at least the other of said base and one of said pair of seating members, for presenting a member of adjustable height to said elastomeric member to affect a force displacement characteristic of said seat.
- 33. The seat as recited in claim 20 wherein each of said pair of seating assemblies has a front end and a rear end and wherein each of said pair of seating assemblies includes an indentive shape adjacent said rear end to provides greater freedom for the user.
