Claims
- 1. A system for isomerizing a hydrocarbon feedstock comprising saturated C6 hydrocarbons, said system comprising:a first isomerization reactor containing a first isomerization catalyst composition; first conduit means operably related in fluid flow communication to said first isomerization reactor for introducing said hydrocarbon feedstock into said first isomerization reactor; second conduit means operably related in fluid flow communication to said first conduit means for introducing a hydrogen stream into said first isomerization reactor; third conduit means operably related in fluid flow communication to said first conduit means for introducing a chloride stream into said first isomerization reactor; fourth conduit means operably related in fluid flow communication to said first isomerization reactor and operably related in fluid flow communication to a first separator for withdrawing a first intermediate stream comprising cyclohexane and n-hexane from said first isomerization reactor and for introducing said first intermediate stream into said first separator, said first separator providing means for separating said first intermediate stream into a first product stream comprising cyclohexane and a second intermediate stream comprising n-hexane; fifth conduit means operably related in fluid flow communication to said first separator for withdrawing said first product stream from said first separator; sixth conduit means operably related in fluid flow communication to said first separator and operably related in fluid flow communication to a second isomerization reactor for withdrawing said second intermediate stream from said first separator and for introducing said second intermediate stream into said second isomerization reactor, said second isomerization reactor containing a second isomerization catalyst composition; seventh conduit means operably related in fluid flow communication to said sixth conduit means for introducing a hydrogen stream into said second isomerization reactor; eighth conduit means operably related in fluid flow communication to said sixth conduit means for introducing a chloride stream into said second isomerization reactor; and ninth conduit means operably related in fluid flow communication to said second isomerization reactor for withdrawing a second product stream comprising isohexane from said second isomerization reactor, wherein said ninth conduit means is operably related in fluid flow communication to a second separator for introducing said second product stream into said second separator, said second separator providing means for separating said second product stream into a third product stream comprising isohexane and a first bottoms stream comprising n-hexane, methylcyclopentane and cyclohexane; tenth conduit means operably related in fluid flow communication to said second separator for withdrawing said third product stream from said second separator; eleventh conduit means operably related in fluid flow communication to said second separator and operably related in fluid flow communication to a third separator for withdrawing said first bottoms stream from said second separator and for introducing said first bottoms stream into said third separator, said third separator providing means for separating said first bottoms stream into a n-hexane product stream comprising n-hexane and a second bottoms stream comprising methylcyclopentane and cyclohexane; twelfth conduit means operably related in fluid flow communication to said third separator for withdrawing said n-hexane product stream from said third separator; thirteenth conduit means operably related in fluid flow communication to said third separator for withdrawing said second bottoms stream from said third separator; and fourteenth conduit means operably related in fluid flow communication to said thirteenth conduit means and operably related in fluid flow communication to said first isomerization reactor for recycling at least a portion of said second bottoms stream to said first isomerization reactor.
- 2. A system in accordance with claim 1 wherein said first isomerization catalyst composition comprises at least one Group VIII metal, a porous carrier material, and at least one halogen.
- 3. A system in accordance with claim 2 wherein said at least one Group VIII metal is platinum.
- 4. A system in accordance with claim 2 wherein said porous carrier material is alumina.
- 5. A system in accordance with claim 2 wherein said at least one halogen is chlorine.
- 6. A system in accordance with claim 1 wherein said second isomerization catalyst composition comprises at least one Group VIII metal, a porous carrier material, and at least one halogen.
- 7. A system in accordance with claim 6 wherein said at least one Group VIII metal is platinum.
- 8. A system in accordance with claim 6 wherein said porous carrier material is alumina.
- 9. A system in accordance with claim 6 wherein said at least one halogen is chlorine.
