Claims
- 1. A clam shell grill comprising:
- a support structure;
- a lower cooking platen having a lower cooking surface and being mounted to said support structure;
- an upper cooking platen having an upper cooking surface and being mounted to said support structure for movement between a cooking position and a non-cooking position, said upper cooking surface being substantially parallel to said lower cooking surface when said upper cooking platen is in said cooking position;
- a motor for effecting said movement;
- means for monitoring said movement, said means for monitoring being capable of generating a signal indicative of the current position of said upper platen during said movement; and
- control means responsive to said signal for operating said motor to accurately position said upper platen to said cooking position.
- 2. The clam shell grill of claim 1, wherein said upper cooking surface is substantially parallel to said lower cooking surface when said upper cooking platen is in said non-cooking position.
- 3. The clam shell grill of claim 2, wherein a linear actuator is mounted to said structure and said motor effects said movement through said linear actuator.
- 4. The clam shell grill of claim 3, wherein said linear actuator includes two reciprocating guide shafts arranged to keep said upper cooking surface of said upper cooking platen substantially parallel to said lower cooking surface.
- 5. The clam shell grill of claim 4, wherein said means for monitoring includes positioning switches on sid two reciprocating shafts and a positioning encoder for receiving data from said positioning switches indicative of said current position, said data being used generating said control signal.
