Claims
- 1. A vehicle door comprising:
an inner panel having an inside surface and an outside surface; an outer panel fixed to said outside surface of said inner panel; and an elongated hardware carrier beam defining a channel configured to receive vehicle door hardware, said hardware carrier beam being mounted to said inner panel inside surface.
- 2. The vehicle door of claim 1 further comprising a flange extending from said hardware carrier beam, said flange being mounted to said inner panel inside surface.
- 3. The vehicle door of claim 1 wherein said beam comprises four side walls and said flange surrounds three of said side walls.
- 4. The vehicle door of claim 1 wherein said hardware carrier beam defines an opening to receive and access vehicle door hardware within said channel.
- 5. The vehicle door of claim 2 wherein said hardware carrier beam comprises a pair of interengaged housings, said housings together defining said channel.
- 6. The vehicle door of claim 1 wherein one end of said hardware carrier beam is wider than the other end of said hardware carrier beam.
- 7. The vehicle door of claim 1 wherein at least one of said inner panel, said outer panel and said hardware carrier beam comprises aluminum.
- 8. The vehicle door of claim 1 wherein said inner panel inside surface defines a depression and a corresponding raised portion on said inner panel outside surface, said hardware carrier beam being mounted over at least a portion of said depression such that said channel and said depression are configured to receive a door hardware component.
- 9. The vehicle door of claim 8 wherein said channel and said depression are configured to receive a door motor.
- 10. The vehicle door of claim 1 wherein said door is a sliding vehicle door.
- 11. The vehicle door of claim 1 wherein said door is up to about 35 mm thick.
- 12. The vehicle door of claim 1 further comprising an anti-intrusion beam fixed between said inner panel and said outer panel.
- 13. A hardware carrier system for mounting hardware to a vehicle door panel comprising:
an elongated hardware carrier beam having an exposed side and a wall extending from said exposed side to define a channel bounded by said wall and exposed side, said channel being configured to receive vehicle door hardware; and a mounting member extending from said wall for attaching said hardware carrier beam to a vehicle door panel thereby surrounding said channel by said hardware carrier beam and the door panel.
- 14. The system of claim 13 wherein said hardware carrier beam has four sides and said wall extends around said four sides.
- 15. The system of claim 14 wherein said mounting member comprises a flange extending from said wall.
