Claims
- 1. A non-pourable homogeneous ultra-low molecular weight interpolymer of ethylene with at least one C.sub.3 -C.sub.20 .alpha.-olefin which is characterized as having a number average molecular weight (M.sub.n) as determined by gel permeation chromatography, of no more than 11,000, a molecular weight distribution, M.sub.w /M.sub.n, as determined by gel permeation chromatography, of from 1.5 to 2.5, a pour point of greater than greater than -30.degree. C., as determined by ASTM Method No. D97, and a density of from 0.850 to 0.889 g/cm.sup.3,
- wherein the ultra-low molecular weight ethylene polymer is further characterized as having lamella greater than 40 nanometers in length when viewed using transmission electron microscopy.
- 2. The interpolymer of claim 1, wherein the .alpha.-olefin is further selected from the group consisting of 1-propene, isobutylene, 1-butene, 1-hexene, 1-heptene, 4-methyl-1-pentene, and 1-octene.
- 3. The interpolymer of claim 1, wherein the .alpha.-olefin is further selected from the group consisting of 1-butene, 1-hexene, 4-methyl-1-pentene, 1-heptene, and 1-octene.
- 4. The interpolymer of claim 1, wherein the .alpha.-olefin is further selected from the group consisting of 1-hexene, 4methyl-1-pentene, 1-heptene, and 1-octene.
- 5. The interpolymer of claim 1, which is further characterized as being semicrystalline.
- 6. The interpolymer of claim 5, wherein at least 60 percent of the lamella have a length greater than 40 nanometers.
- 7. The interpolymer of claim 6, wherein at least 20 percent of the lamella have a length greater than 60 nanometers.
- 8. The interpolymer of claim 5, wherein at least 80 percent of the lamella have a length greater than 40 nanometers.
- 9. The interpolymer of claim 8, wherein at least 30 percent of the lamella have a length greater than 60 nanometers.
- 10. The interpolymer of claim 8, wherein at least 10 percent of the lamella have a length greater than 80 nanometers.
- 11. The interpolymer of claim 8, wherein at least 40 percent of the lamella have a length greater than 60 nanometers.
- 12. The interpolymer of claim 8, wherein at least 20 percent of the lamella have a length greater than 80 nanometers.
- 13. The interpolymer of claim 8, wherein at least 5 percent of the lamella have a length greater than 100 nanometers.
- 14. The interpolymer of claim 1, wherein the polymer has a density of from 0.850 to 0.869 g/cm.sup.3.
- 15. The interpolymer of claim 1, wherein the polymer has a density of from 0.870 to 0.889 g/cm.sup.3.
- 16. A non-pourable homogeneous interpolymer of ethylene and at least one C.sub.3 -C.sub.20 .alpha.-olefin, which is characterized as having a number average molecular weight (M.sub.n) as determined by gel permeation chromatography, of no more than 11,000, a molecular weight distribution, M.sub.w /M.sub.n, as determined by gel permeation chromatography, of from 1.5 to 2.5, a pour point of at least -30.degree. C., as determined by ASTM Method No. D97, and a density of 0.850 to 0.889 g/cm.sup.3, wherein the ultra-low molecular weight ethylene polymer is prepared using a constrained geometry catalyst.
- 17. The interpolymer of claim 16, wherein the .alpha.-olefin is further selected from the group consisting of 1-propene, isobutylene, 1-butene, 1-hexene, 1-heptene, 4-methyl-1-pentene, and 1-octene.
- 18. The interpolymer of claim 16, wherein the .alpha.-olefin is further selected from the group consisting of 1-butene, 1-hexene, 4methyl-1-pentene, 1-heptene, and 1-octene.
- 19. The interpolymer of claim 16, wherein the comonomer is an ethylenically unsaturated monomer which is a C.sub.5 -C.sub.20 .alpha.-olefin.
- 20. The interpolymer of claim 16, wherein the comonomer is an ethylenically unsaturated monomer which is a C.sub.6 -C.sub.20 .alpha.-olefin.
