- at least one protrusion extending from said outer surface of said bone anchor body;
- wherein said ultrasonic bone anchor is adapted to reciprocate at an ultrasonic frequency with an excursion of 50 to 300 micrometers.
- 2. A bone anchor according to claim 1 wherein said coupling element includes threads formed in a right-hand screw pattern, and said protrusion is formed in a left-hand screw pattern.
- 3. A bone anchor according to claim 1 wherein said coupling element includes threads formed in a left-hand screw pattern, and said protrusion is formed in a right-hand screw pattern.
- 4. A bone anchor according to claim 1, said bone anchor body having a central portion between said distal end and said proximal end, said central portion having a length, wherein said protrusion is a thread, said thread having a thread pitch less than one turn per said bone anchor central portion length.
- 5. A bone anchor according to claim 4 wherein said thread pitch is about one quarter turn per said bone anchor central portion length.
- 6. A bone anchor according to claim 4, wherein said protrusion comprises a plurality of said threads.

- an outer surface on said body of said bone anchor;
- a coupling element located at said proximal end of said bone anchor; and
- at least one protrusion extending from said outer surface of said bone anchor body, wherein said protrusion is formed in a substantially straight line along said bone anchor body length, from said bone anchor proximal end to said bone anchor distal end; and
- wherein said ultrasonic bone anchor is adapted to reciprocate at an ultrasonic frequency with an excursion of 50 to 300 micrometers.
- 8. An ultrasonic bone anchor comprising:
- a proximal end, a distal end, a body between said proximal end of said bone anchor and said distal end of said bone anchor;
- an outer surface on said body of said bone anchor;
- a coupling element located at said proximal end of said bone anchor, wherein said coupling element includes a tapered surface; and
- at least one protrusion extending from said outer surface of said bone anchor body, wherein said ultrasonic bone anchor is adapted to reciprocate at an ultrasonic frequency with an excursion of 50 to 300 micrometers.
- 9. A bone anchor according to claim 8, said bone anchor body having a central portion between said distal end and said proximal end, said central portion having a length, wherein said protrusion is a thread, said thread having a thread pitch less than one turn per said bone anchor central portion length.
- 10. A bone anchor according to claim 9 wherein said thread pitch is about one quarter turn per said bone anchor central portion length.
- 11. A bone anchor according to claim 9, comprising a plurality of said protrusions.
