Claims
- 1. A method of promoting healing of a body wound, wherein the body includes an interior body region, which is adjacent to the wound and which extends within the body and away from the wound, comprising:positioning an ultrasonic transducer on a surface of the body, wherein the transducer has an operative surface disposed to direct ultrasonic waves toward the interior body region; positioning a reflective medium within the body; emitting ultrasonic waves from the operative surface of the ultrasonic transducer onto the reflective medium, whereby the reflective medium redirects at least a portion of the ultrasonic waves toward the wound sufficient to promote healing of the wound.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein positioning the reflective medium within the interior body region comprises fixing the reflecting medium in the body substantially adjacent to the body wound.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the emitting of ultrasonic waves is at a spatial peak temporal average acoustic intensity ranging from about 5 mW/cm2 to about 100 mW/cm2.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the portion of ultrasonic waves redirected toward the wound provides sufficient longitudinal waves to generate shear waves or surface acoustic waves at the body wound.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein positioning the reflective medium within the body comprises intravenously injecting the reflective medium into the body.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the reflective medium is inorganic.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the reflective medium is a metallic plate.
- 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the reflective medium is a gas filled pouch.
