Claims
- 1. An ultraviolet light absorbing agent, comprising a compound having the formula: ##STR11## wherein ##STR12## Y is OH; Z is H, OH, OQ or OW;
- Q is --CH.sub.2 (CH.sub.2).sub.n Si(R.sub.2).sub.x (OR.sub.1).sub.y ; and
- W is --C.sub.m H.sub.2m+1 ;
- where x=0, 1 or 2, y=1, 2 or 3, x+y=3, R.sub.1 =alkyl or alkanoyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 =alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, n=0, 1 or 2 and m=1 to 18.
- 2. An ultraviolet light absorbing agent, comprising a compound having the formula: ##STR13## wherein: ##STR14## Y is H; Z is H, OH, OQ or OW, where at least one Z is OH;
- Q is --CH.sub.2 (CH.sub.2).sub.n Si(R.sub.2).sub.x (OR.sub.1).sub.y ; and
- W is --C.sub.m H.sub.2m+1 ;
- where x=0, 1 or 2, y=1, 2 or 3, x+y=3, R.sub.1 =alkyl or alkanoyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 =alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, n=0, 1 or 2 and m=1 to 18.
- 3. A compound as defined in claim 2, wherein Z is OH.
