Claims
- 1. An ungelled resin formed from reacting:
- (A) a polyepoxide and
- (B) a polyoxyalkylenepolyamine;
- the ratio of equivalents of active hydrogens in (B), with primary amine groups being considered monofunctional, to equivalents of epoxy in (A) being within the range of 1.20 to 1.70:1.
- 2. The resin of claim 1 wherein the polyepoxide is a polyglycidyl ether of a cyclic polyol.
- 3. The resin of claim 2 wherein the cyclic polyol is a diol.
- 4. The resin of claim 3 wherein the polyglycidyl ether of the cyclic diol is a polyglycidyl ether of bisphenol A or hydrogenated bisphenol A having a molecular weight within the range of 340 to 2000.
- 5. The resin of claim 1 in which the polyoxyalkylenepolyamine is a polyoxypropylenepolyamine.
- 6. The resin of claim 5 in which the polyoxypropylenepolyamine is a diamine.
- 7. The resin of claim 1 in which the polyoxyalkylenepolyamine has a molecular weight within the range of 137 to 3600.
- 8. The resin of claim 7 in which the polyoxyalkylenepolyamine has an amine equivalent weight of about 69 to 1800.
- 9. The resin of claim 1 being at least partially neutralized with acid to provide cationic groups and dispersed in aqueous medium.
- 10. An ungelled resin formed from reacting:
- (A) a polyglycidyl ether of a cyclic polyol having a molecular weight of 340 to 5000 and an epoxy equivalent of 170 to 2500,
- (B) a polyoxyalkylenediamine having a molecular weight of 400 to 3000;
- the ratio of equivalents of active hydrogen in (B), with primary amine groups being considered monofunctional, to equivalents of epoxy in (A) being within the range of 1.20 to 1.70:1.
- 11. The ungelled resin of claim 10 in which the polyglycidyl ether of a cyclic polyol has a molecular weight of 340 to 2000 and an epoxy equivalent of 170 to 1000.
- 12. The ungelled resin of claim 10 in which the polyoxyalkylenediamine has a molecular weight of 800 to 2500.
- 13. The ungelled resin of claim 10 or 12 in which the polyoxyalkylenediamine is a polyoxypropylenediamine.
- 14. The ungelled resin of claim 12 in which the ratio of equivalents of active hydrogen in (B) to equivalents of epoxy in (A) is within the range of 1.25 to 1.50:1.
- 15. An ungelled resin formed from reacting:
- (A) a polyglycidyl ether of a cyclic polyol having a molecular weight of 340 to 2000 and an epoxy equivalent of 170 to 1000,
- (B) a polyoxyalkylenediamine having a molecular weight of 800 to 2500;
- the ratio of equivalents of active hydrogen in (B), with primary amine groups being considered monofunctional, to equivalents of epoxy in (A) being within the range of 1.25 to 1.50:1.
- 16. The ungelled resin of claim 15 in which the polyoxyalkylenediamine is polyoxypropylenediamine.
