Claims
- 1. An unitary filter cartridge to be removably affixed within an opening through a cartridge support frame, said filter cartridge comprising:
- a filter sheet forming a filtered chamber which receives a filtered medium passes through said filter sheet, said filter sheet having a rim proximate an exit port from said filtered chamber, said filtered medium being discharged through said exit port;
- a screen positioned within said filtered chamber and formed proximate said filter sheet, said screen having a rim proximate said rim of the filter sheet; and
- an unitary sleeve permanently secured to said rims of the filter and screen, said sleeve sealingly engaging said opening, said sleeve being formed of an integral flexible material which is manually deformable to facilitate manual removal of said cartridge from said opening.
- 2. A unitary filter cartridge to be removably and sealingly received within a circular opening through a tube sheet separating the clean and dirty plenums of filtration apparatus, said filter cartridge comprising:
- a filter sleeve formed as a tubular member having an open upper end oriented toward said tube sheet and an open lower end oriented away from said tube sheet;
- a tubular screen positioned interiorly of said filter sleeve for structural support thereof, said tubular screen having an open upper end oriented toward said tube sheet and an open lower end oriented away from said tube sheet;
- a bottom end cap permanently and sealingly secured to the lower end of said filter sleeve and to the lower end of said tubular screen to close said lower ends of said filter sleeve and tubular screen; and
- a unitary tubular, upper sleeve fitting including a lower cylindrical portion, a tapered side wall portion, a peripheral groove portion and an upper ledge portion all integrally formed of flexible material, said lower cylindrical portion of said sleeve fitting permanently securing said upper ends of said filter sleeve and said tubular screen, said tapered side wall portion of said sleeve extending from said lower cylindrical portion to said peripheral groove portion, said peripheral groove portion of said sleeve fitting corresponding to said tube sheet opening to effect sealing engagement therewith, and said upper ledge portion of said sleeve fitting overlying said tube sheet adjacent said circular opening to suspendingly support the filter cartridge from the tube sheet.
- 3. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 2, wherein the outside diameter of the lower cylindrical portion of said unitary tubular, upper sleeve fitting is less than or equal to the diameter of the circular opening through said tube sheet.
- 4. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 2, wherein the tapered side wall portion of said unitary tubular, upper sleeve fitting tapers outwardly and upwardly from where said tapered side wall portion integrally joins said lower cylindrical portion and has an outside diameter less than or equal to the diameter of the circular opening through said tube sheet to where said side wall portion joins said peripheral groove portion and has an outside diameter greater than the diameter of the circular opening through said tube sheet, and wherein the peripheral groove portion of said unitary tubular, upper sleeve fitting has an inside diameter equal to or slightly greater than the diameter of the circular opening through said tube sheet in order to effect sealing engagement therewith.
- 5. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 2, wherein the upper ledge portion of said unitary tubular, upper sleeve fitting which joins with said peripheral groove portion has an outside diameter greater than the diameter of the circular opening through said tube sheet for overlying said tube sheet in sealing engagement adjacent said circular opening to suspendingly support the filter cartridge from the tube sheet.
- 6. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 2, wherein said bottom end cap having an outer contour following and conforming to an outer contour of said filter sleeve proximate said bottom end thereof.
- 7. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 2, wherein said tubular filter sleeve having a pleated cross-section.
- 8. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 2, wherein said side wall portion of said sleeve fitting is formed from an unitary funnel-shaped side wall having a circular horizontal cross-section and a frusto-conical vertical cross-section.
- 9. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 2, wherein said unitary sleeve fitting is formed of a material having a durometer reading between 30 shore A and 70 shore A.
- 10. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 2, wherein said sleeve is configured to satisfy a relation 0.3<H/D<0.85; wherein D represents the diameter of said opening through said tube sheet and H represents a distance between the upper end of said filter sleeve and the peripheral groove of said sleeve positioned in said tube sheet opening to ensure that the portion of said sleeve above said filter sleeve and said tubular screen is sufficiently flexible to be manually deformed and removed from said tube sheet opening.
- 11. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 2, further comprising:
- a separate resilient band having an outer diameter substantially equal to the inner diameter of said upper ledge portion of said unitary tubular, upper sleeve fitting, said band engaging the inner surface of said sleeve fitting proximate said circular opening through said tube sheet to increase a sealing pressure upon the sleeve fitting with said opening.
- 12. A unitary filter cartridge to be removably and sealingly received within a opening through a tube sheet separating the clean and dirty plenums of filtration apparatus, said filter cartridge comprising:
- a filter sleeve formed as a tubular member having an open upper end oriented toward said tube sheet and an open lower end oriented away from said tube sheet;
- a tubular screen positioned interiorly of said filter sleeve for structural support thereof, said tubular screen having an open upper end oriented toward said tube sheet and an open lower end oriented away from said tube sheet;
- a bottom end cap permanently and sealingly secured to the lower end of said filter sleeve and to the lower end of said tubular screen to close said lower ends of said filter sleeve and tubular screen; and
- a unitary tubular, upper sleeve fitting including a lower straight wall portion, a contoured side wall portion, a peripheral groove portion and an upper ledge portion all integrally formed of flexible material, said lower straight wall portion of said sleeve fitting permanently securing said upper ends of said filter sleeve and said tubular screen, said contoured side wall portion of said sleeve extending from said lower straight wall portion to said peripheral groove portion, said peripheral groove portion of said sleeve fitting corresponding to said tube sheet opening to effect sealing engagement therewith, and said upper ledge portion of said sleeve fitting overlying said tube sheet adjacent said opening to suspendingly support the filter cartridge from the tube sheet.
- 13. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 12, wherein the outside perimeter shape and dimension of the lower straight wall portion of said unitary tubular, upper sleeve fitting is less than or equal to the perimeter shape and dimension of the opening through said tube sheet.
- 14. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 12, wherein the contoured side wall portion of said unitary tubular, upper sleeve fitting tapers outwardly and upwardly from where said contoured side wall portion integrally joins said lower straight wall portion and has an outside perimeter shape and dimension less than or equal to the perimeter shape and dimension of the opening through said tube sheet to where said side wall portion joins said peripheral groove portion and has an outside perimeter shape and dimension greater than the perimeter shape and dimension of the opening through said tube sheet, and wherein the peripheral groove portion of said unitary tubular, upper sleeve fitting has an inside perimeter shape and dimension equal to or slightly greater than the perimeter shape and dimension of the opening through said tube sheet in order to effect sealing engagement therewith.
- 15. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 12, wherein the upper ledge portion of said unitary tubular, upper sleeve fitting which joins with said peripheral groove portion has an outside perimeter shape and dimension greater than the perimeter shape and dimension of the opening through said tube sheet for overlying said tube sheet in sealing engagement adjacent said opening to suspendingly support the filter cartridge from the tube sheet.
- 16. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 12, wherein said bottom end cap having an outer contour following and conforming to an outer contour of said filter sleeve proximate said bottom end thereof.
- 17. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 12, wherein said tubular filter sleeve having a pleated cross-section.
- 18. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 12, wherein said side wall portion of said sleeve fitting is formed from an unitary funnel-shaped side wall having a circular horizontal cross-section and a frusto-conical vertical cross-section.
- 19. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 12, wherein said unitary sleeve fitting is formed of a material having a durometer reading between 30 shore A and 70 shore A.
- 20. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 12, wherein said sleeve is configured to satisfy a relation 0.3<H/D<0.85; wherein D represents the effective diameter of said opening through said tube sheet and H represents a distance between the upper end of said filter sleeve and the peripheral groove of said sleeve positioned in said tube sheet opening to ensure that the portion of said sleeve above said filter sleeve and said tubular screen is sufficiently flexible to be manually deformed and removed from said tube sheet opening.
- 21. The unitary filter cartridge as in claim 12, further comprising:
- a separate resilient band having an outer perimeter shape and dimension substantially equal to the inner perimeter shape and dimension of said upper ledge portion of said unitary tubular, upper sleeve fitting, said band engaging the inner surface of said sleeve fitting proximate said opening through said tube sheet to increase a sealing pressure upon the sleeve fitting with said opening.
