Claims
- 1. A fill valve for a water storage tank, comprising:
- a riser assembly;
- a valve housing mounted on an upper end of the riser assembly;
- a pilot operated diaphragm valve mounted in the valve housing;
- a float housing connected to the valve housing;
- a combination float arm and float, the float arm being pivotally connected to the valve housing and having a first end for opening and closing a pilot orifice in the valve housing and a second end connected to the float, the float being located in the float housing, and the float housing having an inlet opening for allowing water to spill into the float housing so that the float rises rapidly upwardly and the first end of the arm fully seals off the pilot orifice;
- a snap off cover member extending over the housing, the pilot operated diaphragm valve and the float housing; and
- means for releasably latching the snap off cover member to the valve housing and the float housing for easy removal of the cover member without the use of tools to enable ready access to at least the pilot operated diaphragm valve, float arm and float.
- 2. The fill valve of claim 1 and further comprising an opening in a bottom wall of the float housing and a check valve mounted in the opening for permitting water to drain from the float housing only after a water level of a storage tank in which the fill valve is mounted is below a bottom of the float housing.
- 3. The fill valve claim 1 wherein the first end of the float arm has a central arm and a pair of resilient flexible pivot arms positioned on opposite sides of the central arm.
- 4. The fill valve of claim 1 and further comprising an elastomeric pilot valve member mounted on the first end of the float arm for sealing the pilot orifice.
- 5. The fill valve of claim 1 wherein the means for releasably latching the cover member to the valve housing and the float housing includes grooves formed in the housings and ridges formed on the cover member.
- 6. The fill valve of claim 1 wherein the cover member has at least one finger tab formed thereon to enable a user to grasp the finger tab and remove the cover member from the valve housing and the float housing.
- 7. The fill valve of claim 1 wherein the cover member has a plurality of vent apertures formed in a portion of the cover member that covers the valve housing.
- 8. The fill valve of claim 1 wherein the cover member has a stepped height with a first portion that covers the valve housing at a first height and a second portion that covers the float housing at a second height.
- 9. The fill valve of claim 1 and further comprising a strainer/restrictor removably mounted in the riser assembly and readily accessible by removing the pilot operated diaphragm valve.
