Claims
- 1. A centrifuge for separating particulate matter out of a liquid which is flowing through said centrifuge, said centrifuge comprising:
a base; a centrifuge shell assembled to said base and defining therewith a hollow interior space; a hollow rotor hub having a central axis of rotation and being assembled into said base and extending through said hollow interior space; a support plate positioned within said hollow interior space and in cooperation with said hollow rotor hub defining a flow exit opening; and a separation vane module positioned in said hollow interior space and constructed and arranged so as to extend around said hollow rotor hub and so as to be supported by said support plate, said separation vane module including a plurality of axially-extending and spaced-apart separation vanes.
- 2. The centrifuge of claim 1 wherein said separation vane module includes a top plate which defines a plurality of inlet holes for liquid flow into said separation vane module.
- 3. The centrifuge of claim 2 wherein said separation vane module is a unitary molded member.
- 4. The centrifuge of claim 3 wherein each separation vane of said plurality of separation vanes has a curved shape.
- 5. The centrifuge of claim 4 wherein each pair of adjacent separation vanes define a gap therebetween, the circumferential width of each gap increasing as the gap extends outwardly in the direction of said centrifuge shell.
- 6. The centrifuge of claim 5 wherein said separation vane module includes a radially-extending divider shield in order to facilitate the flow of liquid into said inlet holes.
- 7. The centrifuge of claim 6 wherein each separation vane of said plurality of separation vanes includes a turbulence shield in order to reduce flow turbulence of any liquid exiting said separation vane module in a radial direction from between adjacent separation vanes.
- 8. The centrifuge of claim 7 wherein each separation vane of said plurality of separation vanes includes a curved portion which is shaped to partially encircle a corresponding one of said plurality of inlet holes.
- 9. The centrifuge of claim 2 wherein said separation vane module includes a radially-extending divider shield in order to facilitate the flow of liquid into said inlet holes.
- 10. The centrifuge of claim 2 wherein each separation vane of said plurality of separation vanes includes a curved portion which is shaped to partially encircle a corresponding one of said plurality of inlet holes.
- 11. The centrifuge of claim 1 wherein said separation vane module is a unitary molded member.
- 12. The centrifuge of claim 11 wherein each separation vane of said plurality of separation vanes has a curved shape.
- 13. The centrifuge of claim 1 wherein each pair of adjacent separation vanes define a gap therebetween, the circumferential width of each gap increasing as the gap extends outwardly in the direction of said centrifuge shell.
- 14. The centrifuge of claim 1 wherein each separation vane of said plurality of separation vanes includes a turbulence shield in order to reduce flow turbulence of any liquid exiting said separation vane module in a radial direction from between adjacent separation vanes.
- 15. The centrifuge of claim 1 wherein each separation vane of said plurality of separation vanes has a substantially planar shape.
- 16. The centrifuge of claim 15 wherein said separation vane module includes a top plate which defines a plurality of inlet holes for liquid flow into said separation vane module.
- 17. The centrifuge of claim 16 wherein said separation vane module is a unitary molded member.
- 18. The centrifuge of claim 17 wherein each pair of adjacent separation vanes define a gap therebetween, the circumferential width of each gap increasing as the gap extends outwardly in the direction of said centrifuge shell.
- 19. The centrifuge of claim 1 wherein the angle defined by a radially extending line from the axis of rotation that intersects a separation vane and a tangent line to the point of intersection is between 30 degrees and 60 degrees.
- 20. The centrifuge of claim 1 wherein each separation vane of said plurality of separation vanes has a hyper-spiral shape.
- 21. The centrifuge of claim 1 which further includes a liner shell which is positioned inside of said centrifuge shell.
- 22. The centrifuge of claim 21 wherein the separation vane module is integral with said inner shell.
- 23. A centrifuge for separating particulate matter out of a liquid which is flowing through said centrifuge, said centrifuge comprising:
a base; a centrifuge shell assembled to said base and defining therewith a hollow interior space; a hollow rotor hub having a central axis of rotation and being assembled into said base and extending through said hollow interior space; a support plate positioned within said hollow interior space and defining a plurality of flow exit openings; and a separation vane module positioned in said hollow interior space and constructed and arranged so as to extend around said hollow rotor hub and so as to be supported by said support plate, said separation vane module including a plurality of axially-extending and spaced-apart separation vanes.
- 24. The centrifuge of claim 23 wherein said separation vane module includes a top plate which defines a plurality of inlet holes for liquid flow into said separation vane module.
- 25. The centrifuge of claim 24 wherein said separation vane module is a unitary molded member.
- 26. The centrifuge of claim 24 wherein said separation vane module includes a radially-extending divider shield in order to facilitate the flow of liquid into said inlet holes.
- 27. The centrifuge of claim 23 wherein said separation vane module is a unitary molded member.
- 28. The centrifuge of claim 23 wherein each separation vane of said plurality of separation vanes has a substantially planar shape.
- 29. The centrifuge of claim 23 wherein the angle defined by a radially extending line from the axis of rotation that intersects a separation vane and a tangent line to the point of intersection is between 30 degrees and 60 degrees.
- 30. The centrifuge of claim 23 wherein each separation vane of said plurality of separation vanes has a hyper-spiral shape.
- 31. The centrifuge of claim 23 which further includes a liner shell which is positioned inside of said centrifuge shell.
- 32. The centrifuge of claim 31 wherein the separation vane module is integral with said inner shell.
