Claims
- 1. A coated unsaturated polyester molded article obtained by applying a coating on a molded article and then curing the applied coating, said molded article being manufactured under application of heat and pressure from a composition consisting essentially of (1) 20 to 70 parts by weight of an unsaturated polyester obtained by condensing an acid component comprising predominantly an .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid with a polyol, (2) 25 to 75 parts by weight of a vinyl monomer copolymerizable with said unsaturated polyester (1), (3) 1 to 25 parts by weight of a thermoplastic polymer, and (4) an epoxy-group-containing vinyl monomer in a ratio of 1 to 40 parts by weight to 100 parts by weight of said unsaturated polyester (1), the sum of (1), (2), (3), and (4) being 100 parts by weight.
- 2. A molded article according to claim 1, wherein the coating contains as binder component a copolymer obtained by copolymerizing 2 to 50% by weight of a hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate, or a N-alkoxyalkyl-acrylamide or -methacrylamide with 40 to 97.9% by weight of other copolymerizable vinyl monomers.
- 3. A molded article according to claim 1, wherein the coating contains as binder component a copolymer obtained by copolymerizing 2 to 50% by weight of a hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate, or a N-alkoxyalkylacrylamide or -methacrylamide, 0.5 to 10% by weight of an unsaturated carboxylic acid, and 40 to 97.5% by weight of other copolymerizable vinyl monomers.
- 4. A molded article according to claim 1, wherein the coating contains as binder component a poly(meth)-acryloyloxy compound having 0.5 to 12 acryloyloxy or methacryloyloxy groups per a molecular weight of 1,000.
- 5. An unsaturated polyester composition for molding compounds capable of being molded into unsaturated polyester molded articles having good adhesion to coating film, which composition consists essentially of a filler and (1) 20 to 70 parts by weight of an unsaturated polyester obtained by condensing an acid component consisting essentially of an .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid with a polyol selected from the group consisting of ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, 1,3-butanediol, 2-methyl-propane-1,3-diol, trimethylolpropane, ethylene glycol carbonate, pentamethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, neopentyl glycol, tetraethylene glycol, and bisphenol derivatives, (2) 25 to 75 parts by weight of a vinyl monomer or mixture of vinyl monomers selected from the group consisting of styrene, chlorostyrene, dichlorostyrene, .alpha.-methylstyrene, vinylnaphthalene, diallylphthalate, diallyl maleate, diallyl succinate, ethyl vinyl ether, methyl vinyl ketone, methyl methacrylate, methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, acrylonitrile, and methacrylonitrile and which is copolymerizable with said unsaturated polyester (1), (3) 1 to 25 parts by weight of a shrinkage-reducing agent which is a thermoplastic polymer selected from the group consisting of homopolymers of acrylates or methacrylates having alkyl groups of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, copolymers of at least two monomers selected from the group consisting of acrylates and methacrylates having alkyl groups of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and copolymers of 95 to 99.5% by weight of at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of acrylates and methacrylates having alkyl groups of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and 0.5 to 5% by weight of an .alpha.,.beta.-monoethylenicallly unsaturated carboxylic acids and (4) epoxy-group-containing vinyl monomer selected from the group consisting of glycidyl acrylate, glycidyl methacrylate, allyl glycidyl ether and methallyl glycidyl ether in a ratio of 1 to 40 parts by weight of said monomer to 100 parts by weight of said unsaturated polyester (1), the sum of (1), (2), (3), and (4) being 100 parts by weight.
