Claims
- 1. An upper tool holder apparatus for a press brake comprising:
- an upper table;
- an upper tool;
- an upper tool holder body, including an upper tool support portion, attached to a lower portion of said upper table;
- a pivotable upper tool clamp member;
- clamping force generating means for generating a predetermined force for clamping said upper tool between said upper tool support portion and said pivotable upper tool clamp member;
- an engage projection formed on said pivotable upper tool clamp member, said engage projection engagable with a drop prevention groove formed in said upper tool; and
- selectively positionable clamp operating means for selecting a position associated with said predetermined clamping force,
- wherein at a clamp position A, said predetermined clamping force is sufficient to tightly clamp said upper tool between said pivotable upper tool clamp member and said upper tool support portion,
- wherein at an unclamp position B, said predetermined clamping force is reduced with respect to said predetermined clamping force at position A and sufficient to enable movement of said upper tool in a direction parallel to said lower portion of said upper table, and
- wherein at an exchange position C, said predetermined clamping force is reduced with respect to said predetermined clamping force as position B and said pivotable upper tool clamp member releasing said upper tool to move a direction perpendicular to said direction parallel to said lower portion of said upper table to enable said upper tool to be exchanged with a different upper tool;
- said clamp operating means comprising:
- a pusher member for pushing said clamping force generating means to generate said predetermined clamping force;
- an operation lever; and
- clamping force control means coupled to said operation lever to be controllably brought into contact with and separated from said pusher member, said clamping force control means for controlling said predetermined clamping force.
- 2. An upper tool holder apparatus for a press brake of claim 1, which further comprises upper tool clamp member urging means (217) for urging said upper tool clamp member (211) slightly in clamp direction when said clamp operating means (215) is moved to said exchange position C.
- 3. An upper tool holder apparatus for a press brake of claim 2,
- said upper tool clamp member urging means comprising at least one coil spring disposed between said pivotable upper tool clamp member and said upper tool holder body.
- 4. An upper tool holder apparatus for a press brake of claim 1,
- said clamping force control means comprising a pusher screw fixed to said operation lever and thread-engaged with said upper tool clamp member, said pusher screw being shifted relative to said pivotable upper tool clamp member when rotated by said operation lever.
- 5. An upper tool holder apparatus for a press brake of claim 1, which further comprises clamp release holding means (219) for holding said upper tool clamp member (211) in a clamping force released state, to form an upper tool exchange space between said upper tool clamp member (211) and said upper tool support portion (209), under condition that said clamp operating means (215) is at said exchange position C.
- 6. An upper tool holder apparatus for a press brake of claim 5, wherein said clamp release holding means comprises:
- an engage recess formed in said pivotable upper tool clamp member; and
- a plunger attached to said holder body so as to be engageable with said engage recess, when said pivotable upper tool clamp member is pivoted away from said upper tool support portion.
- 7. An upper tool holder apparatus for a press brake of claim 1, which further comprises two clamp operation lever stopping means for stopping said moved clamp operation lever at said unclamp position B and said exchange position C, respectively.
- 8. An upper tool holder apparatus for a press brake of claim 7, wherein each of said clamp operation lever stopping means (271) comprises:
- a pin (275) attached to a side surface of a slot (273) formed in a mounting plate (225);
- a stopper member (271) pivotally supported by said pin so as to be projected or retracted from a surface of said mounting plate; and
- a plunger (277) attached to said mounting plate to hold said stopper at said projected or retracted position, respectively.
- 9. An upper tool holder apparatus of claim 1, which further comprises;
- a wedge piece (247) attached above said engage projection (211P) formed in said upper tool clamp member (211) so as to be engaged with said drop prevention groove (205G) formed in said upper tool (205); and
- a coil spring (249) for urging said wedge piece in a direction that said clamped upper tool can be urged in clamping direction.
- 10. An upper tool holder apparatus for a press brake, comprising:
- an upper tool;
- an upper table
- an upper tool holder body, including an upper tool support portion, coupled to a lower portion of said upper table;
- an upper tool clamp member;
- means for clamping said upper tool between said upper tool support portion and said upper tool clamp member, said clamping means including a fastening member;
- an elastic member positioned between said upper tool clamp member and said fastening member for elastically clamping said upper tool between said upper tool support portion and said upper tool clamp member;
- said upper tool clamp member comprising:
- a triangular portion positioned such that an apex of said triangular portion is directed downward with respect to said upper table, said triangular portion including a surface inclined with respect to said upper tool support portion and substantially parallel to a surface of said upper tool, and said inclined surface of said triangular portion flushly contacting said surface of said upper tool when said upper tool is clamped between said upper tool support portion and said upper tool clamp member,
- wherein a clamping force exerted on said upper tool by said upper tool support portion and said upper tool clamping means increases when said upper tool engages a die.
- 11. An upper tool holder apparatus for a press brake of claim 10, wherein said fastening member (327) is composed of a threaded portion (327S) thread-engaged with said upper tool holder body (313) and a cylindrical body portion (327B) for determining a constant space for disposing said upper tool clamp member (309) and said elastic member (329).
- 12. An upper tool holder apparatus for a press brake of claim 10, wherein said upper tool clamp member (309) is formed with an engage projection (309P) engaged with an engage groove (305F) formed in said upper tool (305).
- 13. An upper tool holder apparatus for a press brake of claim 10, wherein right and left side edges (309C) of said upper tool clamp member (309) are chamfered to facilitate insertion of said upper tool between said upper tool support portion (313) and said upper tool clamp member (309).
- 14. A method of clamping an upper tool between an upper tool holder body attached to an upper table of a press brake and an upper tool clamp member, wherein an elastic clamping force is exerted on the upper tool by an elastic member and the upper tool clamp member includes a surface inclined with respect to and facing the upper tool holder body, said method comprising the steps of:
- fastening a fastening member for urging the upper tool clamp member inclined surface toward the upper tool holder body and for forming a predetermined constant space between the upper tool holder body and the upper tool clamp member;
- inserting the upper tool into the predetermined space between the upper tool holder and the upper tool clamp member and in a direction toward the upper table, the upper tool inclined surface flushly contacting a surface of the upper tool clamp member; and
- engaging the upper tool with a die to move the upper tool in a direction toward the upper tool holder body and compressing the elastic member positioned between the fastening member and the upper tool clamp member at a constant compression rate due to a wedge effect between the inclined surface of the upper tool and the surface of the upper tool clamp member, such that the upper tool is clamped between the upper tool holder body and the upper tool clamp member by a constant clamping force.
