Claims
- 1. A urethane resin that is the reaction product of a plurality of components comprising:
- (a) an isocyanate;
- (b) a plurality of alcohols, the alcohols consisting of a straight chained monohydric aliphatic alcohol of carbon chain length 20 or more, a monohydric aromatic alkoxylated alcohol, and a monohydric fused ring alcohol; and
- (c) a toughening agent.
- 2. The urethane resin according to claim 1 further comprising wherein the toughening agent is a hydroxyl containing compound.
- 3. The urethane resin according of claim 1 wherein the toughening agent is one selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl containing polycarbonate, an alkoxylated alcohol, a branched Guerbet alcohol, a polyethylene butylene mono-alcohol and mixtures thereof.
- 4. The urethane resin according to claim 1 further comprising the isocyanate being isophorone diisocyanate.
- 5. The urethane resin according to claim 1 further comprising the straight chained monohydric aliphatic alcohol of carbon chain length 20 or more being selected from the group of about a C-32 linear alcohol, about a C-40 linear alcohol, about a C-50 linear alcohol, and mixtures thereof.
- 6. The urethane resin according to claim 1 further comprising the monohydric aromatic alkoxylated alcohol being octylphenol ethoxylate.
- 7. The urethane resin according to claim 1 further comprising the monohydric fused ring alcohol being hydroabietyl alcohol.
- 8. The urethane resin according to claim 1 wherein the resin is mixed with a mono-amide to form a phase change ink carrier composition.
- 9. The urethane resin according to claim 8 wherein the mono-amide of the phase change ink carrier composition is stearyl stearamide.
- 10. The urethane resin according to claim 1 further comprising a colorant.
- 11. A urethane resin that is the reaction product of a plurality of components comprising:
- (a) an isocyanate;
- (b) a plurality of alcohols, the alcohols consisting of a straight chained monohydric aliphatic alcohol of carbon chain length 20 or more, a monohydric aromatic alkoxylated alcohol, and a monohydric fused ring alcohol;
- (c) a chromogen containing nucleophile; and
- (c) a toughening agent.
- 12. The urethane resin according to claim 9 further comprising the isocyanate being isophorone diisocyanate.
- 13. The urethane resin according to claim 9 further comprising the straight chained monohydric aliphatic alcohol of carbon chain length 20 or more being selected from the group of about a C-32 linear alcohol, about a C40 linear alcohol, about a C-50 linear alcohol, and mixtures thereof.
- 14. The urethane resin according to claim 11 further comprising the monohydric aromatic alkoxylated alcohol being octylphenol ethoxylate.
- 15. The urethane resin according to claim 11 further comprising the monohydric fused ring alcohol being hydroabietyl alcohol.
- 16. The urethane resin according to claim 11 wherein the resin is mixed with a mono-amide to form a phase change ink carrier composition.
- 17. The urethane resin according to claim 11 wherein the mono-amide of the phase change ink carrier composition is stearyl stearamide.
- 18. The urethane resin according to claim 11 further comprising wherein the toughening agent is a hydroxyl containing compound.
- 19. The urethane resin according to claim 11 wherein the toughening agent is one selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl containing polycarbonate, an alkoxylated alcohol, a branched Guerbet alcohol, a polyethylene butylene mono-alcohol and mixtures thereof.
- 20. The urethane resin according to claim 1 wherein the monohydric aromatic alkoxylated alcohol is made from an alkoxylating material selected from oxides of ethylene, propylene, butylene, styrene and combinations thereof.
- 21. The urethane resin according to claim 11 wherein the monohydric aromatic alkoxylated alcohol is made from an alkoxylating material selected from oxides of ethylene, propylene, butylene, styrene and combinations thereof.
- 22. The urethane resin according to claim 11 wherein the nucleophile of the chromogen containing nucleophile includes at least one alcohol functional group.
- 23. The urethane resin according to claim 22 wherein the at least one alcohol functional group is terminal to an oxyalkylene polymeric chain.
- 24. The urethane resin according to claim 19 wherein the alkoxylated alcohol of the toughening agent is a straight chained alcohol ethoxylate.
- 25. The urethane resin according to claim 3 wherein the alkoxylated alcohol of the toughening agent is a straight chained alcohol ethoxylate.
