Claims
- 1. A method of repelling at least one of the insect species:
- (a) Musca Domestica L. (Diptera:Muscidae);
- (b) Aedes aegypti;
- (c) Aedes albopictus;
- (d) Anopheles spp.;
- (e) Coquillettidia perturbans;
- (f) Culiseta spp.;
- (g) Culex spp.;
- (h) Psorophora spp.;
- (i) Culicoides spp.; and/or
- (j) Lutzomyia spp.
- for a finite period of time from a three dimensional space inhabitable by said insect species comprising the step of exposing said three dimensional space to an effective:
- (a) Musca Domestica L. (Diptera:Muscidae);
- (b) Aedes aegypti;
- (c) Aedes albopictus;
- (d) Anopheles spp.;
- (e) Coquillettidia perturbans;
- (f) Culiseta spp.;
- (g) Culex spp.;
- (h) Psorophora spp.;
- (i) Culicoides spp.; and/or
- (j) Lutzomyia spp.
- repelling concentration and quantity of an insect repellent composition of matter selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) The secondary C.sub.12 branched alcohol defined according to the structure: ##STR18## and (b) The C.sub.12 unsaturated ketone mixture consisting of a mixture of compounds defined according to the generic structure: ##STR19## wherein in each of the compounds of the mixture, one of the dashed lines represents a carbon-carbon double bond and each of the other of the dashed lines represents a carbon-carbon single bond.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the insect repellent composition of matter is the secondary C.sub.12 branched alcohol defined according to the structure: ##STR20##
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the insect repellent composition of matter is the C.sub.12 unsaturated ketone mixture consisting of a mixture of compounds defined according to the generic structure: ##STR21## wherein in each of the compounds of the mixture one of the dashed lines represents a carbon-carbon double bond and each of the other of the dashed lines represents a carbon-carbon single bond.
