Claims
- 1. A method for preventing or inhibiting the transmission of HIV to susceptible uninfected cells by administering to the HIV or to cells infected with HIV, an effective amount of a compound of the formula wherein X is O or S,prior to the HIV or the cells infected with HIV, contacting the uninfected cells.

A method for preventing or inhibiting the transmission of HIV to susceptible uninfected cells by administering to the uninfected cells a prophylactically effective amount of a compound of the formula wherein X is O or S,prior to the HIV or cells infected with HIV, contacting the uninfected cells.

- 10. A method for the prevention or inhibition of transmission of HIV in a human host in need thereof, which comprises administering by topical application to the human host in need thereof, a protective amount of a compound of the formula wherein X is O or S.
- 11. A method as recited in claim 10 wherein the protective amount of the compound is topically applied to the vagina, penis or rectum of the human host.
